Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz were internally selected to represent Georgia, with their song “Midnight Gold” chosen by public and jury vote out of four other shortlisted songs. The indie rock song describes the morning after an eventful night.
In his laid-back Britpop style, Nika Kocharov sings about waking up the morning after. He sets the scene: “When I came to/Your smell on me/I reached around the bed/And grabbed a cigarette out of your bag.
He knows something has happened the night before – but his memory is a little hazy, in fact, “ten hours are missing”. He tries to remember, but it’s all blur. Fragments of the evening come to him (“The stains of mud on your skin”), but the whole picture never emerges.
Will Nika Kocharov remember what happened before the Young Georgian Lolitaz make it to Stockholm?

When I came to
Your smell on me
I reached around the bed
And grabbed a cigarette out of your bag
The sound of you breathing
The feel of your skin
It brought back some memories
I never thought this all could happen to me
Ten hours are missing
From memory
I vaguely can recall
A pain and pleasure mixing in one bowl
My mind is spinning
I know the place
One million miles away
My flesh and bones are dreaming in a haze
The stains of mud on your skin
Night will come, so we’ll see
The stains of mud on your skin
Night will come, so we’ll see
The stains of mud on your skin
Night will come, so we’ll see
The stains of mud on your skin
On your skin, on your skin
When I came to
Your smell on me
I reached around the bed
And grabbed a cigarette out of your bag
I like this song a lot. Well done to Georgia for sending something different to ESC.
