Way back in November 2015 we received the news that 2015 “guest” participant Australia would return to the 2016 competition in Stockholm, and we put a very important question out to you guys: Who do you want to represent the land down under at Eurovision 2016? In light of the Australian artist announcement for Eurovision taking place this Thursday, we are ready to reveal the results!

1. Dami Im

Dami Im won The X-Factor Australia in 2013 and she has dominated any and all Australia-related polls we’ve had here at wiwibloggs.com for the past twelve months. The Korean-born gladiator is currently third in the Aussie betting odds and was the runner-up in Wiwivision 2015. Does Dami have the talent to go all the way for Australia? You guys certainly think so! With a huge 50.56% of the vote, Dami Im is your number one!

2. Kylie & Dannii Minogue

Arguably one of Australia’s most famous exports of all time, sisters Kylie & Dannii Minogue have both rocked the music charts of Australia, the United Kingdom and the USA for years. The sisters came together for a Christmas song in 2015 for the first time in a long time, and you guys think they should conquer the Eurovision stage together. With 12.57% of the votes, the Minogue sisters are your number two!

3. Troye Sivan

Aussie YouTube star Troye Sivan is currently making huge music waves all around the world. He recently released his debut album and it’s charting very well across Australia, Europe and the USA. Unfortunately, Troye is already touring Europe when Eurovision 2016 is on, but maybe Troye for Eurovision 2017?

4. Sia

Fourth place in the poll went to the very popular singer-songwriter Sia. She has written songs for some of the biggest pop stars in the world such as Beyoncé and Rihanna, but has recently released a new solo album and it’s smashing charts globally. People argue that Sia may be too big of a name for Australia at Eurovision, but you guys want to see her rock the stage in Stockholm! With 6.56% of the vote, Sia sits in at fourth place.

5. Samantha Jade

Rounding out the top five of the poll results is the gorgeous Samantha Jade. After releasing her first original solo album late last year, she’s just released her second single off the album “Always” and it’s exactly three minutes long. Hmm? She was a huge favourite in the odds last year, before losing out to Guy Sebastian, but oddly doesn’t appear on any odds at all this year. With 4.71% of the vote, Samantha Jade comes in at fifth place.

Some things to note in the poll results were that the bookies favourite, Delta Goodrem, only placed seventh in our poll, and Dansk Melodi Grand Prix debutante and favourite Anja Nissen placed fourth from last in the poll. Ouch!

FULL POLL RESULTS

  1. Dami Im – 50.56% (6,490 votes)
  2. Kylie & Dannii Minogue – 12.57% (1,614 votes)
  3. Troye Sivan – 12.14% (1,559 votes)
  4. Sia – 6.56% (842 votes)
  5. Samantha Jade – 4.71% (605 votes)
  6. The Veronicas – 3.16% (406 votes)
  7. Delta Goodrem – 1.64% (211 votes)
  8. 5 Seconds of Summer – 1.23% (158 votes)
  9. Marlisa – 0.94% (121 votes)
  10. Iggy Azalea – 0.85% (109 votes)
  11. Courtney Act – 0.82% (105 votes)
  12. Tina Arena – 0.79% (102 votes)
  13. Gabriella Cilmi – 0.62% (80 votes)
  14. Cody Simpson – 0.6% (77 votes)
  15. Ricki-Lee – 0.58% (75 votes)
  16. Conrad Sewell – 0.53% (68 votes)
  17. Anja Nissen – 0.49% (63 votes)
  18. Karise Eden – 0.48% (61 votes)
  19. Grace Sewell – 0.37% (47 votes)
  20. Anthony Callea – 0.34% (44 votes)

What do you make of the results? Who do you think should represent Australia at Eurovision 2016? Let us know in the comments below!

UPDATE: On March 3, SBS confirmed that it’s Dami Im for Eurovision 2016!

@Charles: I’m sure either one would be a great choice for Australia, and both could get their chance. I doubt Australia will be gone anytime soon from this competition.

@Alex: I do believe in what you’re saying but you have to understand I’ve been team Delta all the way since 2002 … and personally she is ONE HELL of a musician, songwriter and singer … Maybe one day I might stop to listen to Dani but again Delta sounds far more relevant and suitable for Eurovision … a music-centered Eurovision hopefully.

Dami is my favorite choice to send to Eurovision in Sweden this year because she has worked so hard to gain recognition for her music. I feel this is a golden opportunity for her to achieve this now.

Anyone but Courtney Act… please Aussies send Delta Goodrem with “Wings”!!

@Charles: Listen to her songs, especially her live performances – no, she’s not someone who relies on visuals or who would ever have to. She personally speaks to me a lot as an Asian singer who has found success in a predominantly white country without trying to appear “less Asian” or oversexualizing her image. And she’s damn talented and won X-Factor on the quality of her vocal performances without a doubt. Supporting Dami Im is not the same as opposing Delta Goodrem – this is not a dichotomy where one needs to support only one or the other.

And one other thing: You dare not send anyone who was firmly in their prime before 2000! If they look outdated or out-of-place, or the song sounds as outdated as they are (which Knez defied brilliantly last year), they will find themselves taking that taxi ride to the airport the Friday morning after.

The end result of this poll was obvious.

So, why are they dragging their feet?

Is it because they’ve already planned to send someone who will not be as popular as what the people want?

Or are they considering sending Anja Nissen, to get revenge on Denmark for passing up on her and Simone in their continuing boy-band obsession?

Or have they considered sending someone completely out of the box? They could do that with the Germein Sisters (with or without Alphorn Trio Fröschental), who failed to make it to the Swiss Expert Check.

Kurtis, why should Australia send an upcoming artist? This isn’t some sort of public service the EBU are running. The contest isn’t designed to be a launchpad for beginners. It’s all about the song. At least in theory.

I think Dami would be a phenomenal choice. I’ve seen many of her X-Factor videos on YouTube and her performances drew me in right from the first note. Her songs “Alive” and “Super Love” are both so catchy – something like that from her would be fun to watch at Eurovision

@LATVIA. What is your problem? Why do you hate Dami Im so much? What has she ever done to you? She is the generous, kind hearted, and beautiful human being you can ever meet. In addition to all that, she has an amazing God given talent which she has used to sing at many charity events for free. Please go do a 5 minutes research on Dami Im and you will see what I mean and you will quickly change your thinking towards her. I hope Dami gets chosen to go to Eurovision 2016.

Delta is an amazing artist with decades of experience. However, I believe that Australia should send an upcoming artist. Such as Conrad Sewell, Taylor Henderson, Samatha Jade. But I think the most talented is Dami Im. She has blown me away more and more with every performance!! Unlike some of the other artists I have seen live…

Delta is one hell of a singer who takes her music seriously … who the hell is Dani anyway? Someone who relies on shadows and LED screens to stand out? #hellototheno

Ok, I still don’t get why all the excitement and buzz around Dami Im. She’s a really talented artist no matter what, however, in Australian soil thus far she has not achieved as much success as Guy, Delta, Kylie and others as of today. She’s yet to be more stablished into the scene and has not released a single in a while. – These are just facts. The internet loves her, the public does too. Still, I wouldn’t complain if she’s the one chosen, but I just don’t understand why all the buzz on Dami, just because she performed in… Read more »

@Eli – I think you might be right! Remind Me is nearly exactly 3:00 long and piano is heavily featured – which fits in with today’s clue from SBS! The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is that he’s not with Sony (I don’t think) and there is a lot of talk that they decide who SBS sends…

Hope it’s Conrad with Remind Me though! Could be a winner!

It’s going to be Conrad Sewell!! He said on his twitter that he is going to have a big annocument next week. On the exact same day SBS reveladed that they would announce Australia’s artist on the 3rd of March.

The song is going to be ‘Remind Me’ guaranteed

If you haven’t heard of Dami Im, then you really should find out what the fuss is all about – starting with listening to her phenomenal vocals on numerous videos on YouTube. Dami is consistently pitch perfect, even when singing live, has phenomenally powerful vocals and she commands the stage in any of her performances. Since making her public impact on XFactor 2013 and taking the crown, Dami has made a lasting impression wherever she has performed. She has been invited to and has represented Australia in several huge events in Asia already, totally mesmerising her audiences with her impeccable… Read more »

I hate DAMI IM!

LATVIA

I want something less popular, hate Dami Im, Samantha Jade and Delta Goodrem. I’m concerned that Australia will send some stupid pop song. I’d prefer something from folk or alternative r’n’b. Jake Howden wouldn’t be bad choice for me, but don’t know if it would fit the cheesy eurovision fans taste.

The people has voted and Dami Im won by a land slide with more then 50% of the vote; that’s 4 times more then the second place finisher, in my book, that speaks volume. If SBS/Blink TV does not send Dami Im to Eurovision 2016, it would be tragic, heatbreaking, dreadful, and appalling thing to do to Australia. Anyway, I hope they send Dami Im because she is so amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dami Im would be the ideal artist to represent Australia! She is a phenomenal and enchanting artist, with a powerhouse voice that rivals any of today’s top mega stars! Dami Im, is a true entertainer, who can turn any song into a mesmerizing and captivating experience, that brings the audience to their feet with thunderous applause! Sending Dami Im, to Eurovision 2016, would be the best thing for Australia!

Although SBS has already chosen, the public choice is clearly Dami Im as she also got 70% of the votes in another poll. Dami is used to perform to large crowds with her Chinese New Year performance being broadcasted to an estimated 700 million people, 80,000 to 100,000 at Carols In the Domain in Sydney etc. She doubled the audience while on XFactor and holds the record for standing ovations. There is something ethereal in this classy lady’s voice that reaches you deeply and with the right song, she’s bound to have the same effect on the European audience and… Read more »
