Ahead of his hosting duties at Eurovision 2016 — and appearance as returning champ — Måns Zelmerlöw has released a new single, “Fire in the Rain”. The song is a fusion of folk-pop sounds with electronic accents, a continuation of the sound of Måns’ 2015 album Perfectly Damaged.

“Fire in the Rain” tells the story of a relationship that’s survived hardships and has come out even stronger. Unlike Adele’s similarly titled “Fire to the Rain”, which is an angry dissection of a failed relationship, Måns song is celebratory, portraying the relationship as a fire that burns strong, even in the rain.

Måns has released a lyric video for the song. Similar to the style used in the lyric videos for “Heroes” and “Should’ve Gone Home”, the video sees Måns performing the song against a plain white background, along with rain effects and the song lyrics.

“Fire in the Rain” will be the lead track on Perfectly Re:Damaged, a rereleased version of Måns’ sixth studio album Perfectly Damaged. It’s due to be released on May 13, just ahead of the grand final, but fans can preorder it on iTunes now.

“Fire in the Rain” – Måns Zelmerlöw (lyrics)

I remember you and me
Before we knew our destiny
Never walked the road before
Though we longed to search for more

We put everything aside
With our futures on the line
I could say it’s ’cause of you
You showed the dream we walked into

I saw the danger on the way
But with you it seemed ok

‘Cause when the evening comes
We’re like fire in the rain
When the night’s begun
Our desire heals the pain
And the dreams we share
They are never gonna fade
It’s because of love we’re standing here today

We’re like fire in the rain
Like fire in the rain

I remember every night
I gave my hope you gave your life
We could mend our every scar
Just by looking at the stars
In my mirror I saw you
Everything I need to see
The reflection set me free

‘Cause when the evening comes
We’re like fire in the rain
When the night’s begun
Our desire heals the pain
And the dreams we share
They are never gonna fade
It’s because of love we’re standing here today

We’re like fire in the rain
Like fire in the rain
Like fire in the rain
Like fire in the rain

When the evening comes
We’re like fire in the rain
When the night’s begun
Our desire heals the pain
And the dreams we share
They are never gonna fade
It’s because of love we’re standing here today

‘Cause when the evening comes
We’re like fire in the rain
When the night’s begun
Our desire heals the pain
In the dreams we share
They are never gonna fade
It’s because of love we’re standing here today

We’re like fire in the rain
Like fire in the rain
Like fire in the rain
Like fire in the rain

@Ben Rafter – already?! It’s been a year, and I often hear it on the radio. Wanna talk about forgotten songs? *cough* Austria 2014, Denmark 2013, Azerbaijan 2011

Honestly – I love the guy but his music has very limited diversity. It’s like they take the same hook, notes, and music and create different sounds. There is 0 fire in this. It sounds like half of the tracks in Perfectly Damaged.

This is my winner, haha. Just a little bit classier than anything competing this year!

Good song, but I’m waiting for “Renegades” to be released.

This will obviously be performed as the interval act during the Grand Final, was expecting it to be “Kingdom in the Sky” as it sounds like an interval act song.

Anyways this good! I like Mans and it’s nice to see that his song quality hasn’t decreased since “Heroes”. Hope it charts internationally.

His songs are really, really lame…but that’s just my taste.

I call it “ice cream music” – it tastes sweet only until it melts. And the melting comes quick.

I wish him to have success with that song all over Europe.
