Iceland’s Greta Salome isn’t the only one auctioning Eurovision 2016 memorabilia for charity. Lidia Isac, Moldova‘s representative, has just announced that she is selling the astronaut’s helmet from her “Falling Stars” performance in Stockholm. Ten percent of the sale will go to Best Friends Animal Society, while 90% will go “a friend who helped [her] a lot with Eurovision”.

The Moldovan singer is selling the autographed helmet on Ebay. The item description reads, “Decor. The Helmet hand made is in great condition. Plastic and papier mache. Lidia Isac’s original autograph on it. Weight 2 kg. Silver colour.” The ad also notes that the helmet was featured in the official video of the song “Falling Stars” and that a clip of her performance was shown on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Famed Moldovan artist Ruslan Ratoi created the helmet, and a link to a making of video is also added.

Lidia Isac told the Moldovan press that the failure to qualify for the Grand Final was partly due to the lack of financial support from the Moldovan broadcaster. Her participation was mainly supported by her producer Serghei Orlov. She also blamed the absence of neighbours like Ukraine and Romania from her semi-final.

No financial support and no neighbours. Pah! It was because she didn’t deliver the song convincingly and with the gusto, energy and experience it required. Many of the other female vocalists would have been able to deliver this song and would have qualified. The song could have been easily recomposed to suit her (mediocre) vocal range.

The clip she’s using as a selling point was poking fun at her and a few others.

This is so sweet 🙂
Lidia is a great person and I love her song but I understand why she didn’t qualify. It’s not only due to lack of neighbors and financial support, but also because the song didn’t stand out at all and the running order didn’t favor Moldova. For example, Croatia didn’t have financial support and they only had 3 countries that vote for them (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Austria) but they qualified.
