UPDATE: At 13:40 CET — just 20 minutes before the planned announcement — Ukraine has CANCELLED the host city reveal with this pithy statement.

Writing on Facebook, Dnipro’s mayor Boris Filatov described the latest postponement as shameful.

He has also reacted to Dnipro’s apparent snub.

Our original article announcing today’s planned announcement remains below. The wait continues…

ORIGINAL ARTICLE (PUBLISHED AT 10:00 CET):

Get ready to book your flights and choose your hotel. Today at 15:00 Kyiv time — that’s 14:00 CET — Ukraine will finally announce the Eurovision 2017 host city.

The country’s Cabinet of Ministers published the news this morning, adding that they will stream the event live from Government House in Ukraine.

You can watch a live stream of the host city announcement.

As you’ll recall three cities — Dnipro, Kyiv and Odessa — are still in the race.

In recent days Kyiv has been forced to drop The Palace of Sport as a potential venue, and is now throwing its weight 100% behind the International Exhibition Centre, where it will combine two separate halls to create the arena.

Elsewhere Jamala, Ukraine’s Eurovision 2016 winner, recently told wiwibloggs that Odessa is not ready to host Eurovision.

With just hours to go until the big announcement, which city are YOU supporting?

You can let us know in our poll below.

You can vote for as many cities as you’d like, but you can only vote ONE time, so make it count.

Is Dnipro in or out? I don’t get it.
I think it’s in, but I read a lot of comments saying it isn’t.

– The King of Fun
And the head of NTU has not said anything like that. He has stated in a facebook post that “Two out of the three cities – Odessa and Kyiv – have advantage over Dnipro.” However Dnipro is in the Game. And it will be chosen. Still waiting for cash from Uncle Ihor.

What part of the head of NTU saying that 1. the host city will be chosen in late July 2. In early August 3. On August 24th 4. On August 25th, do some people not get?

This is for those who underestimate Dnipro’s chances to become the host city. Meet Ihor Kolomoyski, ex-governor of Dnipro, who is also 2nd richest person of Ukraine, president of the European Council of Jewish Communities as well as the chairmen of one of the largest TV stations of Ukraine. He can be willing to pay millions of dollars to EBU and whoever so that Dnipro was selected as the host city. The reason for such a lot of postponements is that the selection process has become an auction where Kolomoisky is participating from Dnipro, Saakashvili’s structures from Odessa and other… Read more »

The problem is not that they haven’t revealed the host city yet – the problem is that it’s like the 4th postponement after it was said that the decision would be made by the end of July.
I also think the EBU has something to do with it, I don’t believe that NTU would schedule such an event just to cancel it 20 minutes before.

It is much fun to read all the comments of you – generous and good-hearted Europeans. Unfortunately you know nothing about corruption, oligarchs and mafia of Ukraine. This is not a competition of cities, but a competition of mafia structures that are fighting for earning as much money as they can. If 20 million dollars are risen for the contest, be sure that someone will earn at least 10 million dollars. Be sure that someone will use the contest for money laundering or as an excuse for military intervention to Donbass. I hate politics, but I have to say that… Read more »

I’m guessing EBU weren’t 100% satisfied with the venue, so they put in their veto to allow NTU to make some changes.
Relax guys, NTU and Ukraine have hosted before. They know what thy must do. They are experienced enough to pull it off.

it’s fine that we don’t know yet, as DR only decided that Copenhagen were hosting in mid September, even though Denmark’s only viable host was realistically Copenhagen, while Ukraine has more than one option.

What’s not fine is that this is the third time that we’ve been told that a decision has been made, only for nothing to be said.

I think that the main reason for this whole drama is that the ukrainians want Kiev but EBU wants Odessa tbh…

It would be hilarious if Dnipro hosts, after what things their mayor has been saying. Not gonna happen.

Ukraine is not hosting this contest for the first time. They have done it before so they have experience and know what they must to do or not. Then stop being dramatic and hurrying. Take your time and enjoy.

Adam makes some really good points. It seemed odd that Dnipro would make the final 3, maybe someone in NTU or the gov is really pushing for it to win, so expanded the final 2, to final 3, and asked for more time for Dnipro. Then Dnipro got more and more ready and NTU felt they were ready and the EBU were like, look seriously, it’s not gonna be Dnipro. So now we are down to Kiev and Odessa. As I said before Heart says Odessa Head says Kiev. But then these constant delays make it harder and harder for… Read more »

The EBU aren’t gonna change the host country, that much is all we know. Ukraine already signed all the contracts and what-not, and they do have plans. I’m guessing the EBU weren’t 100% satisfied with the decision so they’re asking NTU to change it. Maybe Dnipro did win, but the EBU vetoed them cos their arena wasn’t big enough, and that’s why they’re out for good. At this point all the delays mean that when the city is announced it has to be at some level of readiness. My heart wants Odessa, but Kyiv might be the only city able… Read more »

@Escfan78

“On 25th of August an hour prior to planned announcement, NTU postponed it for the 4th time. After the cancellation, NTU’s director Zurab Alasania, announced that Dnipro is formally out of the contest and it’s a decision between Odessa and Kiev.”

Dnipro Is not out! They’re upset, but not out. In fact, all these delays are because the organisers are scared to confirn that DNIPRO has won the race. They know whats coming when they reveal it. ????????.

@Johny
I would agree if the mayors themselves were not expressing concerns., however they are. The bids were submitted on the basis of a decision at the end of july / beginning of August and so a lot of valuable time has been lost especially as all the arenas were “not ideal” originally. If new infrastructure is required the loss of a month of time to get this is a huge issue. Dnipro and kyiv mayors have expressed this themselves.

I honestly do not care when they announce the host city and I do think some fans are becoming overly dramatic but I really am real disappointed with NTU. They need to be 100% sure about the city they want to host the contest because this is has just become an absolute sham.

Hey guys, calm down, huh? Nobody is going to change hosting country. Ukraine can be a great host. It’s hard decision and it’s really importand for a good show. Well, they need more time, it’s normal: many countries revealed city of contest in september. The only problem there are announcements of NTU. Yes, we all lost some time, waiting for the show, but well..

@D Announcing in September didn’t work too well for Denmark..altho it was a fantastic show their planning was abysmal and left them with massive debts. So not really a great comparison Also the fact that one of the potential hosts is complaining at the length of time it is taking means they don’t want to end up in that situation where they cannot plan accordingly. And finally yes if they had just said the announcement would be in September all along it wouldn’t have seemed so farcical. To keep giving dates and then cancelling them makes it look like they… Read more »

I think Ukraine is fine to host it, and Denmark announced their host city in September so Ukraine is only taking awhile to announce it in comparison to Sweden and Austria. As said by Ukraine and the EBU, Ukraine does have suitable venues and there’s no need for an outside country to host, they just need to stop planning these host city announcements if they’re not actually ready to actually announce it lmao

This is getting boring now….either pick a damn host city, or give the hiring rights to a back up country. I think United Kingdom, Sweden or Germany are usually the back-up hosts, just let one of them host and give Ukraine automatic qualification to the final.
They will keep delaying it further and it will be winter when one sort of decision is made.

Ukraine, you’re my favourite country in the ESC! You’ve made my top ten every time you participated, other than 2003, but this is kinda pathetic. I agree with Max – The King Of Fun, what happens in May when the contest is delayed? The host city, originally, should’ve been announced a month ago. If you really can’t decide, then just do a draw (without Dnipro, that would be a disappointment), or let the public decide. Of course, if Germany or Denmark or any rich, good organisers offer to host, Ukraine really should give it to them. I mean, I’m sure… Read more »

My wild-ass guess … The EBU vetoed the Ukrainians’ plan, again. “Ukrainian broadcaster NTU has confirmed that this is due to some final details which need consideration.” says eurovision.tv. I think it’s safe to assume that the Ukrainian broadcaster wouldn’t have scheduled an announcement and arranged a YouTube live feed if they thought there were “final details which need consideration” … so the EBU must have been the ones who pulled the plug. I fear that we’re looking at one of two possibilities: (1) Ukraine is about to promise the EBU some things that they can’t deliver, or (2) We… Read more »

@MrBrightside you may have a point, the excuse they keep using is they want to get it right, (seriously there are 3 options, you;ve had months) what happens if they keep on wanting to get it right for the main event and delaying. 8th May 2017, competition has been postponed as we want to get everything right, competiton will now be held in June. Then June comes along, nothing happens at all in June, but in July we get news that ESC 2017 will be in August, then September. Eventually NTU guarantee that ESC 2017 will happen by March 2018,… Read more »

Ukraine, you know I love you, but this is becoming a joke, surely you have picked the host city, I doubt we got within 20 minutes of an announcement without you having made up your mind, unless you were planning on just making it up there and then.

If you want to be respected, why do you always pull this kinda c ,rap , it’s one thing to do it in your National selections, and rig them, or rehost them, but don’t play your games with the main event.

This is embarrassing. You don’t cancel this kind of event 20 minutes before it’s supposed to happen. They are looking like retards now. I have been one of very few that have supported Ukraine as host from the beginning, but this is it for me. Unprofessional is a understatement to say the least.
