After winning over judges and viewers alike over the past two months of The Voice of Russia, last night Aminata Savadogo was eliminated from the competition. The sad news was announced by her coach and Eurovision 2015 colleague Polina Gagarina, which led to a very emotional farewell.

In the Knockout Round, the Latvian golden girl was up against two other members of Polina’s team, Adelina Moiseyeva and Katya Kovskaya. Unlike the previous Battle Round duets, this time the performers had the stage to themselves.

Aminata performed the rock ballad “Obernis” (“Turn Around”), originally recorded by the Kyrgyzstan rock band Gorod 312. She put everything into her performance of the emotional song, and impressed the audience and earned a standing ovation from Coach Polina.

But that stellar performance wasn’t enough to save Aminiata. Up against the equally good performances from Adelina and Katya, the decision was always going to be a hard one.

First Kayta was saved, leaving just Aminata and Adelina, who had incorporated a costume change into her jaunty number. But Coach Polina had to make a decision. She selected Aminita as the one who would not be going through to the live shows.

Polina seemed genuinely upset at having to eliminate Aminata, crying as she farewelled her team member. This led some fans to wonder if the decision was made by the show’s producers, which would have put Polina in the difficult position of having to cut her Vienna pal from the show.

Back in July, we learned that Aminata had auditioned for Golos (The Voice of Russia). In September, that episode screened, and Aminata selected Polina Gagarina to be her coach.

Aminata continued to slay in the Battle Round. She beat Louis Armstrong’s grandson Charlie in a duet of “It’s a Man’s World”.

But while Animata’s journey on The Voice of Russia has come to an end, the show has given her huge exposure in Mother Russia and will surely be a huge benefit to her career. And to be honest, Russia needs some more of that Burkina Faso realness.

What do you think of Aminata’s The Voice of Russia journey? Should Russia get her to write their song for Eurovision 2017? Share your thoughts below!

Honestly Aminata has a wonderful voice, but that rock song just wasn’t for her. If she sang a song similar to her Eurovision entry i’m sure she wouldn’t have been eliminated

I’m not impressed by her performance. She sounds amateurish.

This is very offensive to Burkinabe people if you are ignorant to use their name. You would not say “Denmark realness” you would say “Danish realness” so do the same for us.

It is silly to use “realness” to describe a person anyway, and this website uses it too much

I haven’t watched the beginning of the show so I have no idea why Aminata jumped to Gagarina’s team (no choice given or she made that mistake by herself?). anyway, if you’re not familiar with Russian Golos show you have to know couple of facts. Polina Gagarina is 2d worst coach in the show, she killed lots of talented artists due to lack of experience or by guidance of producers. In past show she litterally damaged some artists by giving them inapropriate songs. If Aminata had any chance she had to stay away from Gagarina. another news related to Voice… Read more »

I kinda agree with Vladimir. Realness has to be replaced by “teas”. “This performance was NOT the tea,” “Polina is serving goddess teas” etc. Either way I’m not following Golos but considering the past winners, talent doesn’t usually win there. Eurovision 2015 teas!

@Möhrant: That has been the reality of the Voice in the USA … nobody cares bout the contestants after the show … no one makes any big impact … it’s all reduced to the show performances and the coaches … nothing else. France on the other hand has been giving some contestants a complete different successful path similar to the ones American Idol gave to Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood or Adam Lambert … these have been selling records and getting hit singles … in France after Kendji … the Voice has become a more solid platform for real musicians that… Read more »

@Vladimir: Welcome to the gay world … 🙂 It’s REAL … deal with it! 🙂 Or ask Putin to do something about it … I don’t know … just deal with it!

Not sure if there will be chances for her in Russia or she will just go back to Latvia to continue her local career.

But i do believe that the show’s producers decide about the contestants. Polina wouldn’t elimate Aminata especially after such strong performance.

I wish Wiwibloggs writers would stop using the word realness all the time. It’s annoying.

The quarter final of swedish Idol was yesterday, and we found out that there will be 3 in the final of Swedish Idol. So there is 75% chance of seeing Charlie compete in Ericsson Globe, in the final of Swedish Idol

Esto al final se traduce, en ESC 2017 que entre estos dos países se intercambian buenas puntuaciones, una lastima que esté concurso esté tan politizado.

@Möhrant It is the most popular music show in Russia with 10-12 million viewers weekly. Aminata has already a large fanbase in Russia.

@Nataly The chice of Polina is objective. I love Aminata, but she was the weakest out of the three ladies. Her blind auditions and battle didn’t impress me either. Yet I expect some kind of collaboration between Aminata and Polina. And yes, Polina is a weak mentor but she has brilliant vocalists.

Politics in this case you have in mind. Well lost a mentor with the song, well, could not a cool singer to “pull” emotionally not quite your stuff… I Aminata was very interesting, but Gagarina failed to disclose it. I performance not like the two rivals in the day was better overall. It happens. Sorry, of course. PS: Pauline is the weakest mentor in the show. Sorry for the English.

Having said that, Russia is a much bigger music market than Latvia so I see why Aminata’s appearance would be beneficial to her career. 🙂 She’s an astounding performer.

I’m not sure if it’s the same in Russia, but my country views the Voice as total trash to be honest. It is not well respected in the music community and most contestants (even the winners) end up releasing one single (usually a cover) and then never be heard from again. Again, not sure if it’s the same in the Russian version but if it is, then I think Aminata can do better.
