tayanna ukraine NF

Tonight, Ukraine’s national selection kicks off with the first of three semi finals. Eight acts will be taking part but only two spots will be on offer in the grand final. Last night we launched a flash poll to see which acts were your favourite for tonight’s show. The results were overwhelming, with TAYANNA receiving 48% of the total votes cast with her song “I Love You”!

A total of 865 votes were cast in the poll. Of those, TAYANNA received 412, well over 300 votes clear of her nearest rival. We previously talked about whether “I Love You” could go on to win the national selection entirely. It’s an English language version of TAYANNA’s song “Osen”, composed by TAYANNA and produced by Ukrainian star, Mak Barkskih. Clearly, she is a big favourite with our readers too — will the votes tonight go her way as well?

Second place in the poll goes to Arsen Mirzoyan, with his French language track “Geraldine”. The song is an homage to Charlie Chaplin’s daughter, Geraldine. Whatever brings inspiration, y’all! Arsen received 101 votes, or 12% of the total cast.

Behind him in third place comes Laliko, with “Sugar Whisper”. She received 81 votes — just four more than fourth placed Roman Veremeychik & Lumiere. It’s clearly going to be a very tight race in the Ukraine tonight to see who goes through if the voting is as close as this!

Ukraine national selection — Semi Final One poll result

1. TAYANNA — “I Love You”: 47.63% (412 votes)
2. Arsen Mirzoyan — “Geraldine”: 11.68% (101 votes)
3. Laliko — “Sugar Whisper”: 9.36% (81 votes)
4. Roman Veremeychik & Lumiere — “Make It Real”: 8.9% (77 votes)
5. SKAI — “All My Love For You”: 8.44% (73 votes)
6. Monochromea — “Blue Bird”: 6.71% (58 votes)
7. MamaRika — “We Are One”: 4.05% (35 votes)
8. Salto Nazad — “O, mamo!”: 3.23% (28 votes)
Total votes cast: 865

Tonight’s semi final starts at 18.00 CET and should go on until 20.30 CET. Results will take place between 21.30-22.30 CET, handily timed for after Melodifestivalen. Ukraine are looking out for y’all as much as they can! You can watch the show live on their YouTube stream as well. Follow along on social media as well using #Vidbir2017.

She was pitchy at times but what do you expect. She delivered the song perfectly and more or less identical to the studio version. Also, it’s not the typical “heard it 100 times before” song. The high note should are fantastic and the ending is really nice. Personally, I think she smashed it live.

Not bad, Tayanna, not bad.. But the song omg.. it’s like I’ve heard this song x100 times already. Nothing original.

Tayanna – Too much pitchy screaming! I’m so sorry, but I think this is overrated. 🙁

MamaRika wasn’t too bad. Early trance influences, like with Jamala’s song last year. It’s a bit forced and cheesy though.

So it was Lumiere that I missed singing. They look very beautiful though. 🙂

LOL. Due to a technical breakdown with the feed, most of the second song was missed out. Won’t that affect the voting?

Well there has been one performance so far. It was okay; a heartfelt performance. There was lots of panel discussion afterwards. Lukewarm perhaps

Well, indeed. Tayanna’s song would be THE ballad of the year. But being Ukraine the host country, I want them to send something in their own language filled with tradition rather than a ballad that could be from anywhere in Europe.
