ogae poll 2017 francesco gabbani

The OGAE fan clubs are set for a busy few weeks. This year’s OGAE Poll will see the 40+ Eurovision fan clubs around the world vote for their favourite song of Eurovision 2017. Once all the votes are counted and combined, we’ll know the OGAE favourite. And this week OGAE France got the voting started!

It’s fitting that the French fans are the first club to vote this year. Last year, France’s Amir won the OGAE Poll 2016 with 425 points.

Members of OGAE — L’Organisation générale des amateurs de l’Eurovision — do not necessarily reflect the general population as a whole, nor are they always a useful indicator of how the actual Eurovision juries will vote.

Ukraine’s Jamala only finished 9th with the OGAE fans last year, but they did get the other acts in the top three right. Russia finished second with the OGAE, whilst Australia finished third.

Similarly, in 2015 the OGAE clubs ranked Italy’s Il Volo first, whilst Sweden’s Mans Zelmerlow finished second. The last time OGAE got the winner of the contest correct was in 2012 and 2013.

So whoever wins this year’s poll will no doubt hope the clubs are back on old form. During the OGAE France vote, the first 12 points of the year — likely of many to come — went to Italy’s Francesco Gabbani. The monkey will be dancing in celebration!

Ten points went to Belgium’s French-speaking starlet Blanche with “City Lights”. Eight points went to Sweden’s Robin Bengtsson, whilst Switzerland received their first votes from the OGAE since 2014, with two points going to Timebelle.

OGAE Poll 2017: OGAE France Vote

12 — Italy
10 — Belgium
8 — Sweden
7 — Estonia
6 — FYR Macedonia
5 — Israel
4 — Romania
3 — Hungary
2 — Switzerland
1 — Portugal

Check back over the next few weeks as the rest of the fan clubs reveal their votes.

Who do you think will win the OGAE Poll 2017? Will Italy continue to lead the way going forward? Let us know all your thoughts on the wiwibloggs app, or the comments section below.

I think that the contest 2018 is in Brussels. Greath this year. Also very good songs:Portugal,Italy,Sweden and Macedonia. Lukas

Belgium and Portugal are the only ones out of these 10 that I really like, but the Macedonian song is OK. Don’t quite get the hype about Italy. I know many people call it fresh and catchy, but for me it is not.

I think the OGAE polls are pretty good considering that they usually haven’t any idea of what the performance is going to be like. Ukraine obviously would have been in the top 3 with OGAE if we had seen the actual performance from the final, which was mesmerising. It would have been the same with Conchita.

In general though, the kitsch female songs do tend to do a lot better in OGAE than in the actual contest – for example Barei last year and the famous example of Hungary’s Katie Wolf.

@Eve
Yes, I agree.. That was harsh from me… I am just adopting the language that some people use to slash perfectly good songs that are not of their liking, only because they are ballads or classic tunes. The Portuguese entry is the perfect example. I am seeing this quite a lot these days… Cheers! 🙂

@ L’oiseau Of course, tastes are different, I just don’t like that term ”trash” someone like that music, someone don’t and that’s ok.. I listen almost every types of music depending of my current mood, don’t restricting myself to only one genre, and don’t miss Eurovision also 🙂

@Eve
I totally agree: lot’s of Eurotrash is also Americatrash. And yes, I go to see a lot of Philharmonic Orchestra concerts to wash off all that Euro-Americatrash we hear in the Radio and in the ESC… As I love the Eurovision and wouldn’t miss it for anything, I will be forced to listen to the Romanian entry at least twice in full, as I predict it will get into the Final. Paula Seling & Ovi: gives another “Playing with Fire” PLEASE!!!!

@ L’oiseau – Same as American trash music. Go watch Philharmonic Orchestra concert if you don’t like, nobody force your distinctive taste to listen it.

Everything is not for sure in ESC, that’s the only thing that’s certain. There is no proof Francesco will do well with juries, nor is there anything to suggest he won’t. Same with televoters. I mean in 2015 everybody was so sure Il Volo would win the juries and Måns televoters with the opposite happening of course. Saying things like “juries will vote for this” won’t do you any favour because no one can predict how juries will vote. No one knows what works for juries, unless you are a member of the jury. All I know for sure is… Read more »

@ Ddraven4 on Portugal Don’t underestimate in semi 1 the Portuguese (and Portuguese-speaking) communities in Belgium, UK and also Iceland (which might explain the Top in Spotify) (There is a big recent emigration wave from Portugal to Iceland, I found out recently.). But it’s true that Eastern European countries traditionally don’t vote much for Portuguese entries (I know… quality has not helped…). In 1994 Sara Tavares would have come 4th if only Western and Nordic countries would have voted… At the time it was still with a jury. Televoting has sharpened that trend. PS: No reactions to my Romanian bashing?…… Read more »

In Kworb you must find it. It was the first day it was out.

It charted on Itunes in Sweden, Finland and Spain 🙂

“Lane Moje ” is one of my favourite songs of all time! It should have won! It was by far the best song in 2004! I also love “Shake it” from that year but Ruslana above Serbia? Give me a break!

However, in 2004 there wasn’t the juries system, it was 100% televote! Unfortunate!

Ddraven4

@Marc I tried searching what you claimed about Salvador’s top 50 placing and found nothing. Give links to where you saw that or I’ll remain doubtfull of such outlandish claim. Besides maybe Iceland I can guarantee no Nordic will give us points and the Eastern countries is the same thing. Maybe in the 70 Portugal had a chance, but it no longer exists. The semi we are in is incredibly strong and we have only Spain voting for us. A spot in the final will be hard to begin with.

@ bella – there’s no way the juries won’t vote for Italy, Francesco’s performance is technically nearly perfect. And if Italy wins the televote but not the whole contest for the 2nd time in 3 years then this is all bs and we need to go back to 100% televoting in 2018.

Salvador is the only artist along with Francesco that has been within Swedish Top 50 Itunes. (Blanche, Isaiah and Verona were Top 100). And for instance, countries like Denmark.. nowhere to been seen in their neighbours charts xD
Salvador is also the highest artist in top 50 viral Spotify in Iceland.
We might have some surprises in May 🙂
In 2015, Iceland or Russia televote gave 12 points to Il volo. Sometimes truth and emotion win

@Ddraven4
I would like for Portugal to win and I will vote for Salvador. I think that he will be the juries favorite (not Sweden as a lot of people say, that makes no sense for me), he has a truly emotional song that breaks down language’s barriers and arrive directly to the hearth.
Probably some Eastern conutries will not vote for him but a lot of the westerner will.
I’m Italian and this year I truly hope we are going to win, but if Portugal wins I’m good with that and I will cheer for you too. 🙂

Ddraven4

@Bella As if Portugal has any chance of winning. I like my country’s song but let’s not be delusional. The televote will hate it, countries like Sweden and Azerbaijan will never vote for anything portuguese and Portugal has minimal diaspora and political/neighbouring connections. Salvador will be a borderline qualifier at best. Would I like to see him win? Yeah, it would be fun to go see the show here in Lisbon and I like the song. But some countries just aren’t meant to win a contest like this.

People somehow like such terrible songs this year. This is the first year that there are so many bad/annoying songs…

I hope that these songs finish at the very bottom:
1. Albania
2. Armenia
3. Denmark
4. Estonia
5. Greece
6. Israel
7. Malta
8. Moldova
9. Montenegro
10. Romania
11. Russia (I hope they will not participate)
12. San Marino
13. Slovenia
14. The Netherlands

And I hope that one of these win:
1. Austria
2. Azerbaijan
3. Belgium
4. Bulgaria
5. Finland
6. Latvia
7. Lithuania
8. Norway
9. Portugal

I dont think that Italy will win because juries wont rank her first or second .People if you want Italy to win give her 400 points in televote and please dont complain if Sweden or Portugal wins eurovision without winning the televote. It will be your fault if Italy lose.Anyway I believe that juries have a better taste than people and the biggest proof of this is that Lane mojeone of the best songs Iin eurovision didnt win and instead Russlana won. This is a statement from me for those who love to hate Sweden and underestimate Portugal.

“Similarly, in 2015 the OGAE clubs ranked Italy’s Il Volo first, whilst Sweden’s Mans Zelmerlow finished second.” Well, it’s not like they got it wrong, as Italy won the televote with 366 points, followed by the godly Polina from Russia (286) and, in third place, Manny from Sweden with 279.

Don’t agree Italy will win this or get most 12 points. Nothing speaks for it. They might very well do so but nothing is for certain. Seems to me the songs who aren’t favourites manges to in. Keep in mind that the fans are just a small fraction of the overall audience watching. The majority are regular people who only watch the entries once and these are the people who tend to vote the most. Fans do overrate and underrate entries, that’s waht the OGAE voting shows. The songs who are fan favouirtes rarely do win or do well at… Read more »

@davve: “italy will not win (…) and would never chart in most countries that participates in ESC this year”. That doesn’t mean it won’t win: most Eurovision songs (even winners) hardly chart out of their country. Eurovision is a fun TV show, but definitely doesn’t have a big impact on the charts. @Denis: I don’t think that the OGAE is that off, I actually find them way more reliable than the bookies for example. Since 2007, all Eurovision winners were in their top 5 – except Dima Bilan, Azerbaijan and Jamala. That means they spotted 7 out of the 10… Read more »

Not a totally bad top, but I would put more exquisite entries like Armenia or Finland. And of course void it from Eurotrash tunes, like Romania, THE Eurotrash entry of 2017 par excellence. Also this top might not be very representative of how the French public vote (I don’t about the jury, though) the diaspora element is not there. For example, in France there are 1,2 million Portuguese living, which vote massively in Portugal (in 1999 the points came from France – 12)

Italy will win this. And get the most 12 points. It will come as no surprise.. sigh…But the fans seem to have trouble with overrating and underrating lately. Ukraine and Sweden they totally missed last year. And Sweden ended up being the most listened song out of all after Eurovision. Hehe.. Can’t trust the fans taste..

I think the French people will give a couple of points to Armenia. They always do because of the Armenian diaspora in France and also because of the history between the two countries. Not to mention that the Armenian entry is GREAT

Portugal got an OGAE point! :O – I like the entry, but I honestly didn’t see that coming! Well done Salvador!

I think Italy is so obvious as a runaway winner this year that we are all trying to believe so hard that it’s a mistake. It’s not a mistake; it’s really that good.
It’s a great spread from France – the inclusion of Estonia at such a high placing is probably the most interesting aspect. 🙂

So Italy won’t win then? OGAE like polls have been way off these past years. Not only the winner but the actual top 5 has been way off. Amir last year “only” managed to get 6th. Jamala; the 9th fan favourite won. Not to mention bottom ranked Frans who ended up 5th despite the supposedly low fan-support. As always take it with a pinch of salt, we do know the ESC voters are far more than the fans Also nice to see that France indeed votes like we predicted they would vote. Also no love for Bulgaria despite being favourite… Read more »
