At their national selection they wore ticking time bombs and were covered in faux blood and gore. Now, perhaps owing to the ongoing geopolitical conflict at home, they’ve recast their performance and removed all references to killing.
O.Torvald cleaned up their look, but they still had their musical grit and edge. The visual centrepiece of their performance is a large bust of a man. It illuminates in all manner of colours as the background LED moves from darkness to a fierce lightning storm. Lots of white strobes give this a rock feel, but the ending is somehow poetic. The song dies down and we see a golden sun rising from behind a mountain landscape. The camera also pans outward and up, and the LED illuminates with gold lines. It gives a sense of depth — and the head a body, creating the illusion a person is poking up through the stage.

I guess William tries to bring at least some attention to ukrainian entry. That’s sweet xD
I wanted them to keep the first staging with the shooting and the blood, but maybe is against the rules, I don’t know.
I have not seen this rehearsal; nor have I seen ANY rehearsal at all. [I like to watch the performances themselves, when they count, with a clean slate.]
I have, however, watched O.Torvald’s official lyric video, and I am quite impressed with the images they used and how they arranged them. They were my #34 two weeks ago, based on their live contest performance as their video. But this lyric video could push them way up my list in my final evaluation, though they are not likely to make my top 20.
Knew from the title: this one’s a William article 😉
The song is ok but they’re really missing the clocks. =(
For some reason, I mis-read the last word of this comment. :S
“O Torvald gives head during 1st rehearsal”?? William, you should get some sleep honey! Never mind! That was funny!
I find quite good they didn’t keep it as in the NF! Now it’s more mainstream, not so violent! But I expected sth better! The performance doesn’t have the rock edge the song has!
“O.TOrvald Gives Head on their First Rehearsal”
Guess the Ukraine wans to win after all
I guess the European fandom of Attack on Titan will vote for this? Idk, it’s the only thing I can think of.
Being one of the few people who actually like the song a lot, I have to say that I’m a little torn regarding the staging. The national final staging was original, but it also looked a little amateurish. Their ESC staging looks far more professional, but it’s also less original…
Yes, I agree with that assessment.
I do like the song, but not the new staging.
Same here. I actually really like the song, but that new staging doesn’t work for me. It has none of the impact of the NF one.
I miss the clocks on their chests. I’m pretty sure they are aiming more for “good out-of-contest act from the host country” than for “Eurovision winner”.
Wow, thanks William, I can’t unsee it now lmao. What a downgrade from their national final performance though.
This headline sucks.
Gives head to who? I am confused right now.
ONUKA, Ruslana and Jamala will represent Ukraine this year in interval acts, Our country doesnt need high place, so you can watch this or go to the restroom for a 3 minutes…
ok, fair enough 😀
Headline: “O Torvald Gives Head…”
Oh for goodness sake William! Maybe get some sleep? :S
Lmao! I just spit out my rice reading it!
Anyway, I miss the staging from their national final!
I’m glad it was only rice you were spitting out! (Yes I know, my humour is dated.) 😀
