He represented Sweden on home soil at Eurovision 2016 singing “If I Were Sorry” — the year’s breakout commercial hit. Now Frans is back with his new single “Liar” and an apology for making fans wait so long… he is sorry, yes!

Scroll down for video

Hi, Its time for me to release some new music now, but first I would like to use this space to tell you of my journey up to this point in time, where I am today, and why it has taken up until now to release new material. This past year has been extremely demanding in many ways. School has been my main focus, as well as all the incredible activity around the song “If I Were Sorry”. I have not really had time to stop and reflect on what has happened; instead I have just gone with it.  School and music clashed more times than I could ever have imagined and this has forced me to rethink my strategy several times in order to make everything work. With help from my Mum and Dad, my friend and manager Fredrik and many others I have managed to find a way to make my day to day life work fairly well. This summer I am going to lock myself in the studio day and night to work on songs for my coming album. From this autumn, my sole focus will be to finish school and in June 2018 I graduate. After that I will be able to pursue the music career I've started. So until the summer of 2018 I will be out of the limelight but hopefully still being listened to. My new song “Liar” has been ready for a while now, and I remember going through many emotions creating this project with those close to me. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it. /Frans

“Liar” comes almost a year after the singer’s previous effort “Young Like Us“, which was released in June 2016. The 18-year-old explained the reasons for his prolonged absence via social media.

“It’s time for me to release some new music now, but first I would like to use this space to tell you of my journey up to this point in time, where I am today, and why it has taken up until now to release new material,” Frans wrote, revealin that the main reason for his hiatus was – school.

“School has been my main focus, as well as all the incredible activity around the song ‘If I Were Sorry’. I have not really had time to stop and reflect on what has happened; instead I have just gone with it. School and music clashed more times than I could ever have imagined and this has forced me to rethink my strategy several times in order to make everything work.”

Frans promises he will dedicate himself fully to music once he finishes high school, “After that I will be able to pursue the music career I’ve started. So until the summer of 2018 I will be out of the limelight but hopefully still being listened to.”

In the meantime, he’s treating fans to new music. “My new song ‘Liar’ has been ready for a while now, and I remember going through many emotions creating this project with those close to me. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we did making it.”

Lyrically, “Liar” — a very Frans-style pop ballad — is a sort of a sequel to “If I Were Sorry”. The sentiments behind the line “But I know deep inside for you it’s just another dance” resurface with “Every single twisted word is all part of the dance.”

You’ll also notice that his London accent is stronger than ever.

The young popstar’s education commitments even seep into the Filip Iversen directed music video. We see Frans dealing with relationship issues — in the school locker room.

Frans — “Liar” lyrics

South of your eyes
North of your chin
Yeah, I hear what you’re saying
I’m taking it in

Every single twisted word is
All part of the dance
The sanctuary of broken bird
When nothing happens by chance

I’m a liar too
Yeah, I’m a liar too
But then again
So are you

The story’s told
In so many ways
It never really gets old but
Let’s just see how it flies

There will never be a second first touch, no
Saturday night
Was all I really wanted, all I really asked for
Now I’m killing the light

‘Cause I’m a liar too
Yeah, ’cause I’m a liar too
But then again
So are you

Don’t go, please stay with me
Don’t go, don’t go
Please stay, please stay
Don’t go, no
‘Cause I’m a liar too

Oh
But then again
Oh I’m a liar too
Don’t go
Please stay, please stay
Don’t go
‘Cause I’m a liar too
Don’t go
Please stay, please stay
‘Cause I’m a liar too

But then again
So are you

I was expecting to read how good this song is… But no! It seems there’s only free hate.

I was just thinking about him and his song yesterday. Good to hear of someone taking their studies seriously while committing to more music along the way. He had a great Eurovision song which was different to the usual cliches and I wish him well.

If the presence of an accent would not have been highlighted I would even try to dive into this 😀 Perhaps a good song for Frans if he states like that about his time.

I’m wondering if it’s not easier (yet better) to just stay with american english. Less tuned, more accessible.

The stars from Eurovision 2016 have been busy lately :p First Amir and now Frans has released a new single! 🙂
Laura Tesoro from Belgium has also released a music video for her newest single “higher” a couple of days ago. The song was released on April 27th 2017. I’m surprised wiwibloggs hasn’t reviewed it yet :p

Yeah I don’t get why they rushed to post an article about this song released less than a day ago, as if Frans was that relevant.

Predictable song… Let’s see if this outpeaks Young Like Us, which didn’t go beyond #91. He faded into oblivion real quick after If I Were Sorry.

He stays authentic to himself 🙂

He’s the opposite from what we usually see from Sweden in Melfest or Eurovision.
He is warm, different and not trying to be perfect.
Again authentic 🙂

Frans is such a phenom. He’s already been part of the Swedish consciousness for 10 years, has had two huge hits and somehow one gets the feeling he hasn’t even begun his career yet.
Who knows, perhaps he will fade into obscurity, but he certainly has the potential to tap into our need for unassuming simplicity, melancholia and irony, to become an unlikely hero in the country where “nothing happens by chance” and no one tells it like it is.

He has already faded into obscurity. His follow-up single to IIWS peaked at #91 in Sweden and this one is nowhere in the iTunes and Spotify top 200s. Buy and stream the superior Liar by Britney Spears instead!

Oh it’s you, The “I bash anything Swedish” Italian person. Your only way of measuring success is looking at charts as if it that gives some value. That’s not how success is measured, especially not in Sweden. No one cares about charts here, most people don’t even know who’s number 1 here. Charts are very archaic here! What’s considered success here is how many fans someone has, how often the artist appears in media and above all how much airplay the song gets on radio and Spotify. Frans has a lot of fans who haven’t forgotten him and I expect… Read more »

Yes Frans is very genuine and loved by many Swedes. I don’t know why the typical Eurovision fans are so critical. The lyrics are also quite good. I think his song was the most sold and played song from last year’s Eurovision. It was hit in Sweden and did quite well in many other countries

Then why don’t you buy his music? (cit. Wendy Williams)

He won a Swedish Grammy for song of the year. It was streamed on Spotify a lot and played all of the time on the radio. No one in Sweden buys music. Evertone streams. FYI: http://nordicplaylist.com/swedish-grammy-award-winners/

To see the difference in success. Frans has been streamed 75 million times while Sergey Lazarev not even 8 million on Spotify.

This is amazing! If Frans continues like this he will have a bright career ahead of him and will become one of Sweden’s shining new stars! I know I am a fan of his..
The accent makes it even better:) Don’t think anyone outside of UK has used the London accent to such degree and success, can’t even think of anyone from UK who sings in London accent
