School’s out for summer — but that does not mean Belgium’s Blanche is taking any time off to relax. She’s already back in the studio, working on some brand new songs.
But whilst we’re waiting for those new tracks to land, Blanche has given us a little treat. She’s released the official acoustic version of her Eurovision 2017 song, “City Lights”.
Blanche — City Lights (Acoustic)
It’s a very similar composition to the version Blanche debuted shortly before leaving for Kyiv. With just a piano as backing, there’s a much clearer focus on Blanche’s deeper vocal. Adele better watch out, y’all!
The simplicity of the track certainly works in its favour. Removing the clapping effect takes the setting from arena to jazz bar — perhaps a setting Blanche would be most comfortable with. By taking away the bells and whistles, there’s a sense that this suits Blanche’s understated personality.
We might be hearing more of the same sound in future songs, too. Blanche recently shared some posts on her Facebook of her time in a studio. In just one photo, there’s two keyboards and two pianos all in shot. We’re sensing a theme here!
Blanche was also busy in between her exams, taking to the stage twice at ZDF-Fernsehgarten in Germany. It’s great to see her following in the footsteps of Loic Nottet and Laura Tesoro as her music career takes off.
With Blanche continuing to develop, it’s certain that whoever represents Belgium in 2018 has a tough act to follow. Blanche’s fourth place in Kyiv was the country’s second in just three years. We recently profiled six acts we would like to see considered:
