On Thursday evening she defied the bookies’ predictions and advanced from Semi-Final 2 of Eurovision 2018, becoming the first artist from Slovenia to do so since Maraaya in 2015.

And a few days before that pink-haired diva Lea Sirk sat down with wiwibloggs in Lisbon to discuss her urban track “Hvala Ne” and the thrusting swagger that comes with it.

“I’m a crazy person,” she tells our William. “I always like to just do some crazy things and sometimes they are okay and sometimes they’re not.”

“I wanted to do something special, but not to feel special. Just because I don’t have time to make hair every day or think about clothes. And it’s so funny you know, in my song I’m talking about not being fake, but I have these fake extensions.”

“Hvala Ne” — that’s no, thank you in English — is a song of empowerment built around Lea’s experience with people trying to shut her down.

“There were so many people in my life telling me what to do. I’m so done with that, just leave me alone, I’ll do whatever I want. There are too many people singing ‘Hvala yes’. I would be so happy if people would say what they really think.”

“When somebody from other countries tells me that they love my song, I can’t always say that ‘I love yours’, because I don’t. I feel stupid if I say that. I love many songs, but the ones I don’t, I don’t say.”

Why did she ditch her windows from Slovenia’s national selection show?

“There were people talking that the windows were a very bad decision, but for me it was very nice. I want people to understand that I am talking to myself. I wanted to say that this is my soul and I’m not going to sell it.”

Lea is keeping it real indeed. She is the exact opposite of her hypocritical interviewer. Her qualification is my favorite moment of this Eurovision so far. After Waylon’s press conference last night, of course. 😀

‘Not being fake’? Then what was with that moment about stopping the music? I can’t believe people bite it, it was hideous.
