Latvia: Aminata spills the tea (and some coffee) in “Don’t Talk About It” music video

In 2015 Aminata Savadogo delivered Latvia its best Eurovision result since 2005. The modern power ballad “Love Injected” finished sixth, courtesy of Aminata’s powerful vocals and some sharp, other-worldly staging. With 186 points, it is also Latvia’s highest scoring entry ever. Aminata was the jury’s second favourite, finishing only behind eventual winner Måns Zelmerlöw with the national juries.

Since 2015, her music has come along leaps and bounds, and we’ve watched her evolve into an even edgier version of herself. In 2017, she released “Prime Time“, where we saw a darker side of Aminata as she sang “I just wanna get high”. That evolution continues with her latest release “Don’t Talk About It”. “Don’t Talk About It” — Aminata

“Don’t Talk About It” unfolds in a brightly lit bar or cafe as Aminata shows up for a date. Things don’t go very smoothly — a piece of cake gets stabbed by a fork — as Aminata wonders if “you want me or my body”. She doesn’t want to hear his excuses as he goes on a date with somebody else. Aminata gatecrashes his extracurricular activity with a scalding hot jug of coffee and pours it all into his cup. He literally gets burned.

Things get back on track as Aminata reveals that she will “crash and burn and fall into your arms”. The torrid love affair continues as Aminata sings “next morning devastated, hungover but liberated, I really should have known that you were trouble all long”.

Aminata rocks an expensive but casual look in the video, working her signature street chic. This is no fairy tale princess standing on stage in a gigantic red gown. The new Aminata stands on her own two feet and gets her way.
