The final four acts headed to the grand final of Hungary’s A Dal 2019 have been selected. Bogi Nagy, Gergő Szekér, Joci Pápai and Fatal Error will be heading to the A Dal grand final next week — and one of them may end up as Hungary’s act for Tel Aviv.

The first three qualifiers were determined by a combination of televote and an expert jury made up of A Dal jury regulars Magnun Cum Laude lead singer Misi Mező and award-winning performer and composer Miklós Both, while rock legend Feró Nagy, singer-songwriter and former Eurovision jury member Lilla Vincze join the jury this year.

The vote was won by Hungary’s Eurovision 2017 star Joci Pápai, who scored 45 points. Next was Gergő Szekér who followed with 43 points, while Bogi Nagy took third place with 42 points. Joci and Gergő were also the public favourites in the first round, each picking up nine points from the public.

The fourth qualifier was selected by a second round of public voting. The public disagreed with the results of the first round — the fourth spot went to rockers Fatal Error who had placed fifth in the first round. However, they were third-equal with the public in the first round.

The qualifiers will go on to compete in next week’s grand final on 23 February. They’ll be joined by the qualifiers from last week’s first semi-final,  Acoustic Planet, Petruska, Bence Vavra and The Middletonz.

However there could be some disruption. As the show ended, it was announced that one of the finalists had been accused of plagiarism. The act wasn’t named — it could be any of the eight finalists — however the broadcaster is investigating the claim. If it proves to be true, the act may face disqualification from A Dal 2019.

A Dal 2019 – semi-final 2 results

  1. Joci Pápai – “Az én apám” (45 points)
  2. Gergő Szekér – “Madár, repülj!” (43 points)
  3. Bogi Nagy – “Holnap” (42 points)
  4. Gergő Oláh – “Hozzád bújnék” (41 points)
  5. Fatal Error – “Kulcs” (40 points)
  6. Mocsok 1 Kölykök – “Egyszer” (39 points)
  7. Ruby Harlem – “Forró” (38 points)
  8. Timi Antal feat. Gergő Demko – “Kedves Világ!” (38 points)
  9. Nomad – “A remény hídjai” (36 points)

A Dal 2019 concludes next week, with the grand final. There, the eight remaining acts will compete and one will be selected as Hungary’s act for Eurovision 2019.

For all the terrible decisions this jury has made over the past few weeks, the final lineup is not that bad. Should get a good song out of it. The jury actually got the top four correct tonight but you can’t force the public’s hand.

That weird moment where you find out that the confusing Hungarian jury did exactly what you wanted them to do.

I would’ve prefered Kedves Vilag instead of Fatal Error but at least Gergo Szeker made it and I am glad about it!
Btw, there is only one song in the final I can say I don’t really like. The rest are all great! Hungary should be proud of such a strong selection!

When you are italian and you read “Fatal Error”, anyway I really liked Joci Papai last time at Eurovision 😉

Szekér Gergo’s staging improved a lot since Heat 1. I want him or The Middletonz to win A Dal. 🙂 (For me Petruska’s song is similar to Jungle Song, but we will see…)

When I heard about the plagium, my first thought was Petruska, because for me his song’s chorus similar to Jungle Song. But it just me… We will see what’s the truth.

Glad my three favs made it, but I’m a bit surprised Fatal Error didn’t qualify at first as they had the most votes amongst the qualifying heats…

Is Hungary going to announce the song that is believed to plagiarized?

Only if the experts think it’s really a plagium.
