Pop out the can of crazy and get ready for a show! Tonight Moldova will host their much-awaited national final O melodie pentru Europa, an event which has produced two top ten entries for the country in the last two years. It’s been a long and bumpy process including a really lacklustre audition round, cancellation of shows and a rescheduling of the final. But finally Moldova is ready, Europe is ready and it’s time to take a look at who your favourite is from the ten potential entries.
Around a week ago, we asked you to choose your favourite to represent the Republic of Moldova at Eurovision 2019. After closing the poll on March 2, we counted 753 votes and a fairly clear winner emerged: Anna Odobescu and her dramatic ballad “Stay”.
Results from our poll
|#||Artist||Song||Number of Votes|
|1||Anna Odobescu||“Stay”||21.38% (161 Votes)|
|2||Vera Țurcanu||“Cold”||16.60% (125 Votes)|
|3||Che MD||“Sub Pământ”||14.21% (107 Votes)|
|4||Tinna Gi||“Virus”||13.28% (100 Votes)|
|5||Maxim Zavidia||“I Will Not Surrender”||8.23% (62 Votes)|
|6||Marcela Scriparu||“Meteor”||7.30% (55 Votes)|
|7||Lemonique||“Gravity”||5.84% (44 Votes)|
|8||Diana Brescan||“Lies”||5.31% (40 Votes)|
|9||Aurel Chirtoacă||“La Cinema”||5.18% (39 Votes)|
|10||Siaj||“Olimp”||2.66% (20 Votes)|
As one can see, Anna Odobescu topped our poll with 161 votes, some 40 votes ahead of runner up Vera Țurcanu. Coincidentally, Vera placed second in last year’s edition of Moldova’s national final albeit quite a way behind eventual winners DoReDos, who dominated the proceedings. Moreover, on top of Vera, another returnee from O melodie pentru Europa performed quite well in our poll: Che MD. Despite coming dead last in the Moldovan national selection last year, the band have upped their game and fans have clearly responded. Earning a respectable 3rd place in our poll, they could definitely still be a contender for the win being only 40 or so votes behind poll-victor Anna Odobescu.
Rounding out the top five is rising star Tinna Gi with her song “Virus” in fourth place and O melodie pentru Europa alum Maxim Zavidia in fifth. Tinna earned exactly 100 votes from our viewers putting her in definite contention for Tel Aviv, while Maxim is a little further behind on 62 votes. Nevertheless, from what we have seen this national final season, winners can come out of nowhere to win our hearts and snatch the ticket to Israel.
When, where and how?
If you’re interested in watching the Moldovan pre-selection tonight make sure you clear your evenings. The show will kick off at 20:15 CET and can be watched either on TV Moldova 1 or on the broadcasters official stream online.
Voting for the contest will be determined by a combination of jury votes and televoting – much like previous editions of the contest and many other national finals across Europe. Each juror will present their individual scores from 1-8, 10 and 12 and after all the scores have been allocated, the points will be converted in 12, 10 8-1 depending on how each song placed.
Subsequently, the results from the televoting will be combined to the jury scores in similar fashion. Whoever has the greatest amount of points after all the results have been revealed will be elected as Moldova’s representative for the 64th Eurovision Song Contest.
What do you make of the results from our poll? Is Anna Odobescu your favourite to win too or do you think that a different act will be travelling to Tel Aviv this May? Let us know your opinion in the comments down below.
