After being announced as Poland’s participants for Eurovision in Tel Aviv with “Fire of Love (Pali się)”, non-conventional girl group Tulia have yet again proven their worth on the big stage.
The group, who were only formed in 2017, won the ‘Debut of the Year’ award at the Polish Fryderyk awards – the equivalent of the Grammys for their nation. The awards celebrate Poland’s finest musical artists in pop, jazz and classical music.
They posted their delight on their Instagram account after winning the award:
“2019 for us will be unforgettable. The only unique award for debut of the year was in our participation. Thank you to the academy of record for trust and huge distinction. Congratulations to all nominees and winners!”
“Emotions are not decreasing at all…we are already home, we are happy with our loved ones, but we want to thank once again the Academy of Record and our listeners: for all concerts, for listening to our album, for appreciation, trust, acceptance, all cordial conversations, words, wishes good luck, congratulations, handshakes, nice looks and unique smiles. We love your music, how brave and talented you are! We love our audience – you are always with us!”
Tulia climbed the charts in 2018 after releasing their self-titled debut album, which received platinum certification and won three awards at the ‘National Festival of Polish Song’ in Opole. Since then, they have continued to tour across the country with their unique harmonic sound.

I’m happy for them, I think it’s good to show some of the traditional music to wider audience. But unfortunately a lot of people in Poland are unhappy with this choice for Eurovision and in mainstream media they are spreading a lot of hate (NOT constructive criticism) – that this is music for peasants, hicks, old people form small towns etc., that they’re screaming so bad that ears are bleeding, that they should go back to “their” barn, cowshed etc. 🙁 I know their music is not everyone’s cup of tea and some people won’t like their “white singing”, but… Read more »

I also think that showing and bringing some ethnicity and country traditionallity in music in Eurovision is a good thing – there’s a lot of different, original and interesting cultures – I think celebrating such kind of diversity is quite important and rather positie. Personally I love songs that are influenced by or contain the ethnic/folk elements 🙂
I love the song, the mixture of traditional sounds and rock gets me all the way. I don’t like my country’s traditional music (flamenco if anyone wonders it) but I’ve never said a bad word about it, and I do know flamenco rythmed song I like (I love Estopa, who do also mix flamenco and rumba sound with rock ryhtms, so there’s a thing there). Eurovision is about showing your music and your culture, whatever is fully ethnic, fully mainstream (hi Sweden!) or a mix of both as Tulia is doing. Wtf, why are so many countries sending hate to the chosen artists? It makes me so sad reading what people are saying to their representatives. Tulia are freakin amazing and I hope they can stay strong and ignore the pure hate. ?
