In 2017, his song “Dying To Try” failed to qualify for the Eurovision grand final in Kyiv. And while Brendan Murray initially threw in the towel and took on a job as a plumber, he continued dreaming about a career in music. Now, after a successful stint on X Factor UK, the former HomeTown boy-band member is back on his musical journey, and has released the new single “If I’m Honest”.

This new track is a mid-tempo pop ballad. Lyrically, it sees Brendan trying to understand why his lover left him for another man: “It was never meant to go down like this / Got a feeling deep inside that you couldn’t resist / Now I’m just another name on that list”.

The Irish singer expresses regret about getting into the relationship to begin with: “If I could go back I would never have kissed you / So I don’t want to waste your time / Because you’ve already wasted mine”.

As Brendan told us in an interview whilst in Kyiv: “Love can take you anywhere”. Unfortunately, that sometimes includes the bad places!

Brendan Murray – “If I’m Honest”

Brendan has also gifted us with the official music video for “If I’m Honest”. While the Irish star is seen singing his heart out on the waterfront, it’s fellow HomeTown band mate Dayl Cronin that takes the lead acting-wise.

Dayl walks through the city and keeps seeing his ex-girlfriend with another guy everywhere he goes. It becomes clear that he is in fact imagining these sightings, but the pain is still very much real.

At the end of the video Dayl relives the moment that he caught his ex-girlfriend in act with this other guy. There really is pain around every corner.

If you can’t get enough of Brendan and his stunning voice, then you’ll be glad to know that he’s also recently announced his very own tour in the United Kingdom and Ireland this coming June.

In a press release, Brendan notes: “The X Factor has given me an amazing platform and I don’t want to waste this. I love music and I love singing, but my goals is to have sell out concerts singing my own songs. To have my own tour is so exciting and I can’t wait for my fans to hear my music”.

We can’t wait to see what else Brendan has in store for us in the future.

Brendan Murray at Eurovision 2017

Brendan Murray represented Ireland at Eurovision 2017 with the song “Dying To Try”. He’d previously been a member of the six-piece boy band HomeTown, who released their debut album in 2015 and broke up only one year later. Louis Walsh, the group’s producer, subsequently hand picked Brendan to sing solo for his home country in Kyiv.

Accompanied by a giant hot air balloon on stage, Brendan performed in the second semi-final. He placed thirteenth with 86 points, and unfortunately did not qualify to the grand final.

In 2018, the Irish singer subsequently went on to compete in X Factor UK, after his father applied for the show on his behalf without him knowing. Coached by One Direction-star Louis Tomlinson, Brendan made it to the ABBA-themed semi-final before being eliminated.

The article’s title is a bit misleading. I thought you meant the single turned out so bad , he was regretting having recorded it

It looks like a relationship has gone wrong and Brendan is resentful. I always found it sad to blame the ones we cherished.
I never managed to be resentful to those I loved and who hurt me. Worse, I’m still crazy in love with the one who made me suffer the most.
