She’s one of Australia’s pop front runners. Not too long ago Jessica Mauboy dropped her new song “Sunday“. And at the end of April, we were finally gifted with an accompanying music video.

Upon the song’s initial release wiwiblogger Florian noted:

“Sunday” is a feel-good pop track that easily gets stuck in your head. The chorus has an infectious melody, but also shows off Jessica’s stunning vocal quality.

The choir harmonies that lie underneath the Australian singer in the pre-chorus build up perfectly before the chorus drops in and takes it home. This is no doubt going to be a perfect song to sing along to this summer.

The music video now builds on from the studio-cut and brings the track to life.

Jessica Mauboy – “Sunday” (Official Video)

At first, the “We Got Love” singer is sitting in what appears to be a bedroom, no doubt thinking about the relationship she sings about in the lyrics. We then see Mauboy break out to the outside world as if she’s leaving her lover behind. But note, it’s not of her own doing, as she sings at the same time: “If I walk out and I leave / That ain’t on me / It’s on you”.

Once outside, Jessica werks some stunning camera angles in the Australian landscape. The close-up shots in particular help get the singer’s emotion across to the audience.

With the space to move around a bit more outside, the Eurovision alum throws herself into the performance. Mauboy generally freestyles her moves while six backing dancers do some well-executed choreography around her.

Throughout the video, Mauboy rocks a very relaxed hairstyle. Indeed, her yellow off the shoulder dress and denim outfit also come across as very natural, perfectly suiting her style. This helps the viewer to relate to Jessica and the song’s storyline – although the metallic silver outfit she also wears is probably a bit harder to find at your local clothes store.

Behind the scenes of the video shoot

Mauboy has also given us an insight into the production of her new music video. The shoot took place in Broken Hill – a small town in South Australia.

It’s clear that the entire crew also had great fun shooting the clip. There’s nothing but love around the set.

While it naturally took some time to get every camera angle just the way they wanted it, Jessica doesn’t seem tired at any point. Her energy shines throughout the entire video!

The Sunday song sounds way too American for my taste. I like her bangs.
