On Friday Mahmood released his new single “Barrio” — an urban flamenco mash-up that has us trapped. And now the Sanremo winner has released a music video to take things even higher.
Following its release on Friday, “Barrio” reached the top ten of the Italian Spotify and iTunes charts. The track is already his third most popular song on Spotify, where “Soldi” crossed more than 100 million streams earlier this year.
Mahmood’s schedule is packed with events all over Europe — including his upcoming “Good Vibes” tour this fall. The release of this music video will no doubt build even more hype before he hits the road.
Mahmood — “Barrio” (Official Video)
The clip — directed by Attilio Cusani (who also directed the video for “Soldi”) — mirrors the lyrical content of the song well. It stresses the importance of friendships and relationships, as pretty young things connect around their cars in an arid landscape.
The video illustrates how Mahmood remains connected to his roots. He’s got a vibe with the people of his past. And while his success has brought him plenty of money and some nice threads, that doesn’t mean more to him than being in good company. Despite all his trips around Europe, he still values his home and its people.
Mahmood is a feast of fashion here, presenting a variety of styles from a casual black top and trousers to a grey jacket with different layers and a leather jacket. This is how it’s done. The visual approach of this video complements the audio track very well. It’s at once simple but fashion-forward, a slice of life that feels cinematic.

I love it
The video was released 3 weeks ago and has just reached 10 million views: thank you Mahmood for this amazing song and video ! You’re always classy, everything you do !
Honestly, i’m not sure about your interpretation of the song. To me it speaks of some secret encounters, where the divide is among different classes, th guy saying the place is not for you, that feels like a class divide. but the guy keeps coming in the barrio, populated of latin gangs – like low slums. and the video shows secret encounters as well: between men – it was shot in Marocco. It’s about people who disown what they actually like. Like many gay people sometimes.
I just have no words for Mahmood anymore. This guy is the authentic, lovable, sympathic and kindhearted embodiment of diversified, modern, unique and characteristic music art! With Barrio he gifted us another masterpiece full of personality, message, flavour and awesomeness! I am addicted to this song and I am completely starstruck by him! Forza Mahmood!
I absolutely agree with your comment !
I don’t have favorite artists because I like different songs and different kinds of music and never stick to a definite artist. But Mahmood made me break this rule. His every song is so great, so unique and personal. Barrio is not an exception. Something very close to Mahmood’s style but at the same time so different. He is a true genius. Thanks to San Remo for making such a discovery and a right choice. And thanks to Eurovision for showing people such a talent all over the world.
Loved the video and can’t stop watching it! ? Cinematography is really amazing and matches well this dynamic song! Love gay vibes too!
This video is made by the director of the video of Soldi, Cusani; Mahmood and him are amazing, two true talents! unluckily Cusani wasn’t the director of the italian staging in Tel Aviv because he could do great things. This story of friendships and love in a barrio, told by the narrator Mahmood, is another masterpiece of this versatile Italian artist, and his vocals are perfect; he’s such a mood! And Europe knows that… 3 concerts already sold out (Paris, London and Berlin), a new show in Tel Aviv, collaborations with other singers Thank you Eurovision, thanks to you Europe… Read more »
The lyrics matched with the video really hints at a gay love-story in a though context
Love the vibe, but I cant help but notice that he is following in the footsteps of Paula & Chaira – pity they stopped making music! 🙁 Different Beats, experimenting with other sounds other than Italo-disco.
But who knows, a new star is born. But to be honest: I just want Paola & Chaira Return to music. They are icons in its own right, just as Mahmood might become. I wish him all the success! 😀

With the magic touch of Attilio Cusani the story told by Mahmood with his song becomes even more iconic, as it was for Soldi…like a beautiful movie you hope will continue, to know how the lovestory of these two guys will continue after the meeting in the night…
Beautiful video and song?
Mahmood’s “Barrio” music video is amazing! I already love this song, but combined with the music video is even more better.
I like so much the love message in disguise ???????
The whole music video is excellent and a joy to watch BUT the segment near the end with the open fire is especially lit. I have yet to be disappointed by Mahmood, he’s a real artist with fantastic style and taste.
Y’all really missed the gay vibes in the video? Ok
