One moment, they state they have a song. Then, they officially don’t have one. But then, they eventually have one after all! That’s the summary of Go_A‘s recent search for their song that will represent Ukraine at Eurovision 2021.

Only a few days ago, broadcaster UA:PBC revealed that Go_A’s entry would be determined by an internal jury. This jury included past Vidbir strongholds Jamala, Yevhen Filatov and Ruslan Kvinta, and UA:PBC Manager Board members Yaroslav Lodygin and Dmytro Khorkin.

UA:PBC then told the band that they had to submit at least two songs to the broadcaster. From then on, the song selection process happened at lightning speed as the broadcaster stated in its rules that the songs would be assessed within one working day.

That assessment took place on the night of 1 Febriary, in perfect European 2021 fashion — namely a Zoom call. UA:PBC reports that Go_A showcased three entries over the call.

Is Go_A’s latest single “SHUM” among the three entries?

Since the release of “SHUM”, Go_A’s latest single honouring Polyssian folklore in a dark-techno style, fans have wondered whether the track was intended for Eurovision 2021.

Internal jury member Jamala shared some details of the selection process on her Instagram story. Showing herself sitting in a little recording studio, she and her fellow jurors can be seen giving feedback on the three songs that Go_A sent in.

Although it’s unclear on which songs they are giving feedback — and the feedback is rather short — we can still dissect a few things from Jamala’s Instagram stories.

First, Jamala compliments frontwoman Kateryna Pavlenko on her vocal capabilities, saying that she sang very well in last year’s national final Vidbir. Next to that, Jamala says that a “great number” and “lively lyrics” are the most important for Eurovision song.

Then, Jamala shared another fragment, with Yevhen Filatov saying over the call:

“(…) A kind of dark, diligent electronical music, if we can say so. Well, it seems to me that it would be great to having such capability…”

“Dark, diligent electronical music” sounds very similar to the type of music that Go_A produced with “SHUM”, which the group described as “dark-techno”. Although, at the same time, the group could have other songs in a similar style.

When will Go_A release their Eurovision song?

The broadcaster has not yet released any details on the timeframe in which the song will be released. UA:PBC previously said the song would be released by 10 March — but this represents the latest possible date, not the confirmed release date itself.

Now that the song has been selected, it seems nothing more than a waiting game until its release.

What are you expecting from Go_A’s Eurovision 2021 song? Something dark? Something diligent? Let us know in the comments down below!

The song is supposedly out tomorrow, and Shum is in the run – UA:PBC revealed the two other tracks (snippets only) on Instagram. Hard to say Shum beats them both, but I hope/presume it will.

Link, please. I cannot find the Instagram page.

Edit – Okay, someone made their You Tube top 3. Honestly, the other 2 songs sound promising as well, but it’s difficult to say from 10 second snippets. Shum is certainly a masterpiece and a shoe-in for my top 5.

“Rano” sounds intesting too, but we already know how great “Shum” is and how it would stand out in Rotterdam.

I can’t wait to hear their song!!! I loved their entry last year and I listened to much of Go_a’s discography recently which is full of great music. Although I do hope it isn’t released in the March time frame so they don’t run the risk of getting overlooked among the other star studded releases. Anyways I wish Go_a the best!!!
