Eurovision 2021 is less than a month away, bringing together 39 countries from all around Europe. The list of participating countries includes four of the former Yugoslav republics.
We asked you which of these countries has the best entry at Eurovision 2021. Our readers turned up in great numbers, casting 5,447 votes. In the end, you sent a clear message in the form of a clear winner.
Albina’s “Tick-Tock” is the best entry from the former Yugoslavia at Eurovision 2021
According to our readers, this one’s a no-brainer. Croatia’s Albina secured over half of all votes cast, with 2,964 votes (54.42%). Croatia is hoping that the pop banger can take it to a Eurovision final for the first time since 2017. Our readers certainly think that Albina is in with a chance. Albina is the only artist in this group who was not due to represent her country in 2020. She has certainly made her presence felt in 2021.
Neighbouring Serbia finished second in the poll. Hurricane sent our fans crazy with “Loco Loco”, accumulating 1,550 votes (28.46%). The trio consisting of Sanja Vucic, Ivana Nikolic and Ksenija Knezevic bring plenty of sass and some Eurovision experience to the table. Serbia is the only former Yugoslav republic competing in the second semi-final, with “Loco Loco” gifted a late first half slot in the running order.
Poll results: What is your favourite entry from the former Yugoslav republics at Eurovision 2021?
- Croatia: Albina – “Tick-Tock” – 2,964 votes (54.42%)
- Serbia: Hurricane – “Loco Loco” – 1,550 votes (28.46%)
- Slovenia: Ana Soklic – “Amen” – 650 votes (11.93%)
- North Macedonia: Vasil – “Here I Stand” – 283 votes (5.19%)
What do you think of the poll results? Which is your favourite? Let us know in the comments.
Don’t think any of them are gonna qualify tbh
Greece and Serbia will, Croatia is probably not and Slovenia is a guaranteed NQ
Croatia really suprised me this year because this is a clear pop club banger and not classic Balkan ballad. Dora was really good, keep on Croatia please.
Serbia-I liked HLV more, but I want this also to qualify, true party
Slovenia/NMC-clearly great voices,just I don’t feel that songs somehow
Croatia is fantastic! Good luck Albina! Totally deserves!
Albania was never part of Yugoslavia!!! ?
Definitely Croatia’s strongest entry ever, but staging will be key. In my opinion, Croatia are not great at staging their act. Staging has been their downfall a lot over the past few years.
Agree. But Dietmann is responsible for their staging this year, so I have high hopes 🙂
Ah yes! We shall see. They probably will qualify though
definitely not strongest entry ever lmao. Marija Magdalena, neka mi ne svane, lijepa tena, vise nisam tvoja, and lighthouse all are easily better than tick-tock
I liked lighthouse, but the staging killed it, they had to make it weird lol couldn’t just have her sing.
I don’t remember the other ones you mention.
well I recommend checking them out. ESPECIALLY the first two, some of the best Eurovision entries full stop
Will do 😉
Cheers lad!
no problem 🙂
*Sad Serbian noises*
Btw that poll made me think about the times when Montenegro and Bosnia were participating, I want them back so badly…
Loved Bosnia – Herzegovina in ESC! Even the strange entries in 2008 I loved. Definitely hope they come back soon.
I voted for Serbia’s entry because it has that flavor of the Balkan (or, better said, ex-Yu) pop-folk music. On the other hand, Albina’s song is certainly the most accessible one by the general audience. However, in my opinion, it lacks the identity – if I heard this song playing on the radio, I would have never associated it with Croatia or any other country from that part of Europe.
That trashy turbofolk is not a part of “ex-Yu” identity. Yes, it exploded in Serbia in recent years and it is constantly being pushed on the rest of the region, but it’s definitely does not represent their identity or cuture.
The pop-folk has become a significant part of life of many young people who live there. I think that a song does not necessarily have to be traditional for it to be suitable for the Eurovision, but rather in accordance to what the majority of population listens to. Only then the ESC will acquire more attention from the public, which would then inspire many other popular artists to participate at national selections and hence achieve better results for their respective countries 🙂
1. Serbia
2. Slovenia
3. Croatia
4. N Macedonia
As she should be!!!!! She’s phenomenal!
Someone please explain to me why Croatia’s being so overhyped by fans.
To me this is just another average ‘meh’ pop song that lacks authenticity. The melodies are bland, the lyrics are beyond saving and Albina’s live vocals were not strong or she was lip-syncing. I can’t see this making the final, I’ll be honest. In another version she sang where the instrumentation was a lot more on the jazzy side, the entry became much more likable, but yeah, they’ll stick with the trashy pop version
are you the little brother of Salvador Sobral you call popmisic trash and you like jazz.
I don’t hate on all pop music, and I’m not ‘Salvador’s protegé’ either. There are several pop songs throughout ESC’s history I love, including in this year. Tick-Tock is an exception in a way that the song offers absolutely nothing unique, besides the gimmick of ‘Look, Croatia doesn’t send a ballad for once.’ And that’s the only reason why people love it.
Croatia:
Televote: Top 15 in the semi-final
Jury: 16th/17th in the semi-final
Televote in top 10
Jury in top 10
If Sweden would have send this you would have liked it.
She deserves to qualify, such a good song, i’ll vote for it <3
I agree that Albina’s song is the best one out of these four. It’s a pretty neat dance track. I *really want* us to qualify. Still, I feel like I have to address one thing – I feel like it lacks a clear *visual identity* compared to some other bangers. Both the Dora performance and the video convey many different things. It’s a song about taking a stand in a toxic relationship, while the atmosphere is so seductive. It needs a really specific and sleek staging to hit the right tone. Agree? Disagree?
Nina? You mean Kraljic? While I like her song a lot, she isn’t competing, so I left her out of this. As for Ana… Let’s just say that you are probably not going to like my review of the song. 🙁 Ana’s vocals are amazing, though.
I am happy that Slovenia this year has its fans. Anyway, ”agree/disagree” comment was primarily about Croatia’s staging / visual presentation.
I’m not worried about Albina’s staging, she’s working hard on it and we know it’ll be better than the Dora performance, which was already really good.
I think Croatia can qualify, but they absolutely have to raise their game. After seeing at the Spain pre-party what some countries’ entries are going to be capable of, I have to think Croatia cannot just send a more polished version of what they did at Dora and expect it to land. There absolutely needs to be something innovating in the staging.
unpopular opinion but “amen” is the only among those that i don’t hate
i hate everything about amen especaily that stupid christian message.
You’re judgmental, discriminant, angry little person. I just looove everything about Amen! God bless you!???
song is boring also she is a average singer she looks creepy.I also hate stupid christian message of the song.
ok why so many downvotes? he is just stating his opinion ffs
and yes, amen is underrated
Here we observe a rare Canadian species swearing, haven’t seen those for a while (oh, and, about the comment, I completely agree)
Agree the song, here, the voice is amazing in my top3 she is!
