Pablo: This should be the textbook example of how to properly find your adult musical style after achieving childhood notoriety. “Je me casse” is the perfect way to both showcase Destiny’s talents without forcing her to either be put in a box or be pushed to a direction that feels foreign to her. The Roarin’ Twenties beat works perfectly as a unique uptempo angle, and neither the message nor the energy clash with each other. Destiny offers the perfect fusion of power, independence and fun, and in turn, offers a very high-quality contribution to the new Maltese era in Eurovision.

Renske: For an 18-year-old, Destiny not only has a strong voice, but also a very recognisable one. Immediately, when you start to play any song sung by her, you know it’s Destiny. This also poses a risk when you go to Eurovision as such a young performer after doing all these other television shows as Junior Eurovision, X Factor Malta and Britain’s Got Talent. Do we love “Je me casse” for the song or for Destiny? A performer can do a lot for a song, but Destiny might just outperform the song in the end, which might make “Je me casse”, regardless of how how strong it is, forgettable in itself.

Deban: Malta is a small island nation packed with many vocal talents. And even within this highly competitive field, Destiny is a cut above her peers. Vocally, she always delivers! But she’s more than just a vocalist — she’s a captivating performer. Whilst my desire for “Je me casse” remains lukewarm, my love for Miss Chukunyere is immeasurable. Also, the fandom hasn’t been this excited since Ira Losco slayed on stage with her baby bump. I am excited too. Destiny Chukunyere gives Malta renewed hope and is a real contender to bag the Eurovision trophy.

Tom: A strong song, “Je me casse” will stand out from the pack even with quite a few up-tempo tracks on the roster this year. The Charleston style beat is infectious, Destiny’s voice is unreal and this will continue to be in my playlist long after the contest ends this year. However, that being said, I am surprised it is touted as such a big contender to win. Though it is a solid entry, yet again, I think Destiny’s talents are better than the song. Destiny will have to do something major in the final for “Je me casse” to take the top spot but she should still get Malta’s best finish since 2005.

Natalie: Destiny needed a song that could match her talents in voice and stage presence, and I reckon they’ve delivered. There’s energy and self-assurance in spades here, and it never lets up – it grows spectacularly throughout the song which was a great move. The brass was a really nice edition too — they really set the tone and act like a herald to announce that a queen is claiming her throne. Is it winner? Well, it really will come down to the staging and performance. They really need something that will carry the shameless, indignant message of the song without being too cliché and kitschy. Could it hold its own on a playlist with “Euphoria” and “Arcade”? I think so. And if there’s one performer who can easily wield the burden of early favourite and carry it through, it’s definitely Destiny.

My choice is Destiny and MALTA all the way Destiny has such talent and vocals are very powerful I think it is right to say that MALTA have a star and a furture ambassador for the island she will rock on the 18th and 22nd of May 2021. Go Destiny Malta and Europe are Behind you all the way top points and a record of so many 12 points from all over Europe. A star is Born. ?
I’m sorry but her song is like a bad try to get “Netta” effect. However, back than it was unique and “Toy” was revolutionary. You could like it or not – but you coudn’t ignore or borded from it. “Je Me Casse” is just not a really good or catchy song…
I think she will do well on live show… she is a great singer. The problem is with the song itself- not even a top10 material…
No hater here, but I really don’t understand the hype… The song sounds like 1000 other songs Ive heard and nothing special… Very sad the ESC turned into 80s song contest instead of the Unique and revolutionary contest it used to be…
Destiny is 10th in my top 39, with a rating of 9/10. But, I predict that Malta will end up being 3rd in the final.
I don’t want my review to boil down to “oh, it’s overhyped”, or “Destiny is good, the song is meh”, but… yeah, it’s a little true. Malta wants to win this year, and who can blame them? I certainly don’t. And truth be told, “Je me casse” is a not too shabby attempt at victory – reasonably catchy, commercially meaningful, synthetically sassy. “Reasonably catchy, commercially meaningful, synthetically sassy”. That’s a perfect definition. It’s like Malta built an equation to try to find what would please the middle ground juror and televoter.
The song isn’t a masterpiece but it is good enough and interesting, bringing something fresh and uplifting without falling into the plastic and artificial standards of some entries like Cyprus, Moldova, Azerbaijan or San Marino. However, it’s Destiny herself the one who elevates “Je me casse” to a higher level and the reason why Malta is 1st in the betting odds. the song per se is absolutely horrendous, but the package is worthy of the first place trophy. destiny sells it off very well with her liveliness and charisma. even though this isn’t a song i’d listen to, i’d very much rather see her win than most other acts. we’re getting out of a pandemi lovato after over a year, we deserve a fun winner!

Destiny elevates this song into the stratosphere. The song itself takes a while to get going, but once the charleston-esque dance kicks in, it becomes a lot of fun. Malta is my third favourite this year. I would be very happy to see them finally win after various near misses.

Wiwibloggs usually save their favourite song for the last. What I remember of the three last year did Israel 2018, Netherlands 2019, and Germany 2020 won the wiwibloggs jury score and they were uploaded last. So maybe it will be Switzerland this year but who knows, maybe it can be a twist or exception this year.
In 2017 , Belgium was uploaded last but didn’t win the Wiwijury . Switzerland is unlikely to beat France but could be 2nd.
I am not a fan of Destiny.. yes, she is talented, but often she oversings her songs and the covers she’s doing and that doesn’t sound good to me.. I think that she is way too young to sing about female empowerment and dress not according to her age, since she hasn’t got the proper experience to deliver it genuinely.. the whole package isn’t right for me.. it doesn’t feel sincere, but rehearsed.. don’t like her #destinedfor greatness.. it’s a bit much.. the song is ok, but that’s it
I loved last years Destiny song, i would have been very happy with that as a winner and i know we cant keep compairing songs to last years but i was atleast expecting something of a similar musical genre. When this years song came out before i heard it i saw loads of reviews talking about the “winning song” so i was excited to hear it but when it kicked off with Destiny pawing over a half naked man i realised we were getting something totally different. That score is way too high
I feel Malta know they have the perfect performer to win their 1st trophy and got lost on the idea of fitting her into a calculated winning template. This is a solid pop song that underuses Destiny, but still gives her some moments to shine, like the bridge, which ironically is too showy for my taste. The lyrics also could be less in our faces, but I assure you lots of women can relate to the situation depicted here. Staging it may be tricky, sassy can pass as arrogant and you don’t wanna risk that when you’re the frontrunner. 7/10
If Malta ever had a chance to win Eurovision it is definitely with Destiny.
But the song though….the song is just not good enough I feel. Malta winning this year would feel like an anticlimax.
Azerbaijan 2011 is exactly what I had in mind typing that out.
I barely knew what Eurovision was in 2011, so I don’t know how much of an outsider Azerbaijan was considered then. I know it was well placed in the odds, but did it have a fanbase like Malta has this time? Personally, this is the only one of those considered frontrunners for now (the top 7 in the odds, now that Lithuania left Sweden behind) that I don’t want to win, because it’s the only one I don’t feel a strong connection between the artist and the song. I do not believe that Azerbaijan won fairly.
I haven’t ever watched 2011’s contest, just a few entries. But it’s hard to explain how they topped the televote with something so bland and got 2nd in the jury vote with a performance that wasn’t very impressive on a musical level.
It definitely won’t be as disappointing as 2011 if Malta takes the trophy but I still hope that she won’t be the one for the Maltese people
MALTA – The roaring twenties are back, and a good way to express it is with an energetic jazzy number by talented Destiny! It mixes the old swing music with new pop influences in a very cohesive way. The sax drop is very cool. The core message of this song is good, but the formula it uses to express it feels overused. I won’t be surprised if this is Malta’s first victory at Eurovision. This is professional, well produced, slick and will go down well with juries and televoters alike. For me personally, though, this is not a winner. Yes, Destiny is a great singer, but this Swedish pop factory product is just not good enough in my book. This song has no originality, and it could just as well have been bought by Azerbaijan or San Marino. 6,5/10
the song is ok..but the main selling point is destiny. she SELLS the song through her voice and performance. also, this song does feel less genuine compared to other favourites eg france, even though it’s a topic and destiny agrees with and one we all should too. overall it’s a great entry from malta, sitting at my 10th place. but would i like to see it win? i guess we’ll see with the performance.

I thought the score would be higher. But Renske’s review is so accurate. I want to love the song cause I am such a huge fan of the singer . She is great . Unfortunately , I can tell that the song doesn’t show all of her strengths . The Maltese PR strategy is hurting her. The song is not bad at all. Got a good message . Overrated in my opinion. But a strong contender for the win. Still, too much Toy meets every European charthit with a saxophone in it circa 2013.
I don’t understand all the fuss about this. This song doesn’t effect me at all. The only positive thing is Destiny herself, cause let’s be honest, this girl can sing!!!

as for me, a bit overrated song
I LOVE Destiny – what an incredible talent she is. I find the melody of this song rather underwhelming though. If it does win it will be on Destiny’s merits not the songwriters.
This song just doesn’t feel like Destiny. When watching the music video, I always get the feeling she just didn’t mature enough to be able to connect the song with the audiences. On stage, vocally she will be on point for sure, but the overall delivery might flop.
before this becomes the toxic cesspool it will become, Malta and Switzerland are amazing and contenders for the win, and hating them for being popular isn’t a cute look. that’s all.
however, if you have good reasons for disliking them that aren’t ‘ugh its so overhyped’ then fine. but it’s suspicious how when malta and Switzerland came out everyone was singing their praises, and when they rose in the odds and became frontrunners, everybody suddenly switched up
Thank you. Anything to undermine the current favorites. Malta’s a small country with a small population. The likelihood of having someone speaking up for Malta on these blogs is very small unlike other, bigger countries. These comments make it seem as though the odds are manipulated when we all know that cannot be true.

Exactly. That’s why I initially didn’t want Je Me Casse to top the odds but fly under the radar and be underestimated instead. We all know what happen to the countries topping the polls. It’s what happening here with Je Me Casse but also happened to Tout l’univers, Discotheque or Growing Up Is Getting Old when each of them were first in the odds. That’s becoming a tradition among wiwibloggs users.
But now that Malta is first in a lot of odds and polls, let’s stick with it.

Sorry, this is just not my taste whatsoever. I live all of my love last year but this song, I just can’t get on board with it. There are various elements to this song that I don’t love such as the drop at the end of the chorus, the melody, the spoken word segments etc. The only redeeming quality for my is destiny as she sings the song amazingly.
I would personally be extremely disappointed if this won. Its not my personal cup of tea. My score will seem harsh but I really just don’t like this song 4/10

Quite a good, radio friendly song. It seems to have been created based on a “winning song” template, so I wouldn’t want it to win.
Got in before it becomes too toxic in here. Anyway. I love Destiny, such a talented young artist, achieving so much already at such a young age. This is definitely one of the most radio-friendly songs out of the bunch this year. It has some fun old-fashioned vibes, mixing in with the new, almost Lizzo-like vibes. I can’t deny that it’s solid. Destiny is a more than capable singer, but I don’t think this shows off her vocal range nearly as much as I expected it to do. Could it be Top 5 material? Probably. Do I think it’s Top 5 material? Not really, but at the end of the day this can do well. 7.5/10
Malta is completely overrated this year and super boring. Not sure why Wiwi spends so much time on this. She is nice girl but the song is meh.
