Sometimes it’s the little things that let your bandmates know you care. Just ask Måneskin’s Victoria De Angelis, who sent bandmate Damiano David some encouragement with a “rock on!” gesture a few seconds before they launched into three of the most important minutes of their professional life.

As you’ll recall, the Italian rock band started their Eurovision 2021 performance in two separate locations. Victoria, Thomas Raggi and Ethan Torchio performed from a makeshift platform on stage, while lead vocalist Damiano started off at the very rear of the stage before making his way to the front of the platform.

It can be lonely diving into such a big moment all alone, but we caught Victoria letting her longtime friend and musical collaborator know that she was with him — and that he was about to slay their performance of “Zitti e buoni”.

Victoria De Angelis sends Damiano David love before Måneskin Eurovision performance

We captured the above footage from our seats inside Rotterdam Ahoy. It’s from the one minute and nine seconds between The Netherlands’ grand final performance and the start of Italy’s. After the Dutch entry exits, the stage crew rushes the stage to sweep off any debris and to construct Måneskin’s platform.

Victoria, Thomas and Ethan then climb the stairs of their platform and Victoria immediately gestures to Damiano. We can’t make out what she’s saying — her mouth is away from the camera — but the “rock on” hand gesture makes it clear it’s something supportive.

Victoria then quickly turns to the audience and, along with her bandmates, hypes up the crowd. She and guitarist Thomas are able to do so a bit longer than drummer Ethan. He’s got to get into position and make sure everything is okay with his sticks.

Do you love seeing what goes on during the postcards as much as us? If so, be sure to check out our compilation of other postcard moments below.

Off-topic, but still related: Måneskin has two songs that charted on this week’s Billboard Canadian Hot 100: https://www.billboard.com/charts/canadian-hot-100/2021-07-03 It is the first time since Duncan’s Arcade that a Eurovision artist charts in North America.

I feel that we should have the option of watching the stage prep rather than the postcards. It’s fascinating, and it gives acts another minute to try connect with the audience.

I can already see the comments “eW eVeRyOnE iS fReAkEd OuT wItH mÅnEsKiN eVeN wItH sUcH a SiNgLe GeStUrE” but it’s the small things that show the quality, the positive energy and the love that bonds those four… Polar opposites to S!sters-

I would say that Sot is comparing the naturalness of Maneskin compared to S!sters who were obviously constructed for the contest and came last.

Germany really should know better, as they too won Eurovision in with Lena who also had that natural I am what I am element of Maneskin.
