Eurovision 2022 Bulgaria Czech Republic

There are still a solid two weeks left in 2021, and Albania’s Festivali i Këngës won’t start for another ten days. However, despite being so early in the season, we already know two of the entries which will perform at Eurovision 2022 in May. They are Bulgaria’s Intelligent Music Project with “Intention” and the Czech Republic’s We Are Domi with “Lights Off”. This means that we can start choosing favourites. Which act do you like best?

You can listen to both tracks and watch our video reactions below. Then vote in our poll. Choose wisely, you can only vote ONE time. Voting ends on Wednesday 28 December — just ahead of Albania’s national final on 29 December. We will then relaunch the poll to include Anxhela Peristeri’s successor.

Eurovision 2022 entries as of 17 December

New entries

Bulgaria: Intelligent Music Project “Intention”

Bulgaira revealed that it had internally selected the rock group Intelligent Music Project on 25 November, with their entry “Intention” arriving early December. The “international rock collaboration” was founded by the Bulgarian businessman, philanthropist and arts patron Dr Milen Vrabevski. For Eurovision 2022, the group will feature a series of well-known stars — most notably Ronnie Romero of heavy metal group Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow. Eurofans will most definitely know Intelligent Music Project’s drummer Stoyan Yankoulov. He famously took Bulgaria to fifth place at Eurovision 2007 alongside Elitsa with the song “Voda” (Water).

Czech Republic: We Are Domi “Lights Off”

Domi — billed as We Are Domi for Eurovision — were formed in the UK back in 2018. However, their members hail from the Czech Republic and Norway. Currently based in Prague, they blend Scandi pop with electro beats. They won the revived ESCZ 2022 with “Lights Off”, beating out six other acts. As in previous years, the national final took place entirely online. Despite only placing fourth with the Czech public, Domi topped both the jury and international fan vote.

Who is your favourite Eurovision 2022 act so far?

Which of the pair is your favourite? Could either win the contest in May? Let us know in the comments.

Off topic, but I like it when we have some entries revealed early. It’s much better than the years we have to wait until late January to have 2 entries to even make a “top”.

Here we go. Only about 35 more polls in the near future.

I’ll wait until I actually have a choice. It’s not US Presidential Elections.

I think that the difference in this poll is disproportionately big. Both songs are solid yet unremarkable. And even if Bulgaria is most likely to miss out, Czech Republic is a borderline qualifier at best.

Is anyone else getting “America, F@ck Yeah”, from Team America, from Bulgaria?

I don’t think the gap is as large as many are making out. Czechia is a catchy modern dance song, Bulgaria is a catchy classic rock song. Impossible to tell how they will do at the finals without hearing the other songs, but my guess right now is that there will not be a big difference in the final outcome.

I’d say it’s leftovers vs. even older leftovers.

I’m sorry Bulgaria, but that was a very easy decision. Actually, any of the other 6 Czech contestants would lead to the same path.

I don’t think either of those are qualifying material. As a Bulgarian the poll results are still kinda disheartening.

I wouldn’t vote for either at this point for the same reason: they are mediocre examples of genres I otherwise enjoy. But in a weak semi, I’d rather see We Are Domi make the GF.

I don’t know. I think Alban and Ronela (the two realistic winners of FiK this year) have songs that fans will like. Ronela has a ethnic flavoured diva banger that some fans absolutely love.

Especially when they’re catering to the exact same people that thought that ‘Say Na Na Na’ was a great song! :-DDD

You can tell Domi won with an NF. Their song is appealing and fun. Intention, on the other hand, is generic and uninspired. That’s pretty bad for a rock song.

Even if Czechia picked their worst song, it would still be light years better then Bulgaria.

i normally like rock music but bulgaria is just not good at all. there’s no breakdown, which makes it lack substance and seem slow. they have an ac/dc vibe in vocals but without a good instrumental the song just doesn’t do anything :/ i hope they revamp it

Czech Republic is a solid 7.5/10 for me – very catchy but my favorite was Anabelle – “Runnin’ Out of F* Time” ….but We Are Domi is good too.

This should ring the alarm bells in Bulgaria, given that ‘Lights off’ isn’t spectacular either.

For me too a clear decision: Czech Republic. It´s a pleasant clubsound and quiet fresh. Good luck !

Honestly, it’s a bit early for polls. Choosing between these two songs was not difficult for me. But the song I chose would never be chosen if there were at least 10 songs to choose from. Hope the next country will deliver something I like or prefer more, especially if there will be a new poll with every new song selected.

Honestly I think the Bulgarian delegation needs to swallow its pride and do something drastic here – either completely revamp the song or create a new entry altogether. It is a competition after all…

The Czech Republic, by a considerable amount. Lights Off feels like a song which will likely finish somewhere in my teens, while Intention already feels like a bottom 10 material for the sheer lack of impact. It’s not aggressively bad, but it’s quite unremarkable.

  1. Czech Republic – 8/10 – very solid track. it’s not groundbreaking but it’s still a very respectable entry that will qualify with ease in my eyes.
  2. Bulgaria 3/10 – and this is an entry that will clearly NQ. It’s just bland, dated rock. Hope Bulgaria goes back to their old delegation that didn’t care about money.
