Italy’s iconic Sanremo Music Festival 2022 starts its five night run on Tuesday 1 February, concluding with the final on Saturday 5 February. Local fans can catch the festival by switching their televisions to RAI 1 while international viewers can watch online.

Here’s when and how you can watch Sanremo online.

RAI will stream all five nights of Sanremo on RAIPlay.

Typically, the on-demand player is geo-blocked for viewers outside Italy. However, RAI will lift restrictions during the live shows.

Fifth evening: The final — Saturday 5 February

Time: 20:45 CET to 01:45 CET

The 25 acts will perform their songs one final time. By the end of the night, we will have a new Sanremo champion.

Unlike other Eurovision-related festivals, the winner will not necessarily be the act that goes to the song contest. Before the contest, acts are required to tell the broadcaster whether they would be willing to represent Italy at Eurovision or not. If the Sanremo winner has agreed to do Eurovision, they’ll get the ticket to Turin. If not, RAI will internally select one of the other competitors.

I am very disappointed with the organisation, I cannot understand how such a renowned festival can have such serious problems with the sound and effects. Many performers had problems with it, which was very clearly visible, only in the case of two performances the microphone volume was well adjusted to the volume of the background music. Unfortunately, this will have a negative impact on the ratings, a good example is Giusy Ferreri or Ana Mena (her vocals were weak, I admit, but the sound team should have adjusted the microphone volume, it happens at every concert), Mahmood’s vocals were louder… Read more »

How are people watching this live? I keep trying through Rai’s website but it keeps crashing. Found a livestream on YouTube but that’s been taken down now. Any help?

So having now seen all the live performances and having no knowledge about the studio versions beforehand my only reaction to this semi is: This was quite bad overall. Either they all or most of them had serious problems with their in ear piece, or they just sang very poorly, almost all of them. Best vocal performance was by Mahmood and Blanco, but the song isnt that amazing, despite it being a touching performance. I do like it still though, but its way way way below the standard Mahmood brought to Eurovision 2019. I think out of the 12 songs… Read more »

Giusy had an elegant performance to close the evening. As usually, I’ll listen to all the songs again in the studio version, and then again in the finals. So far, I’d call Mahmood & Blanco, Noemi, Michele Bravi standouts of the first night. Of course, I expect more songs to be growers.

My list is similar to yours, I would just add La Rappresentante di Lista. Can’t wait to listen to the studio versions.

Overall, a very pleasant night. All the entries were at least decent, the guests were awesome and the show flowed much better than any Sanremo serata I’ve ever watched.

I agree with that last phrase completely. I hope the rest of the evenings also have a similar flow. Also La Rappresentante di Lista have a better song this year than last year surely.

I disagree, because I’m still deeply in love with “Amare”. But I liked the fact they didn’t try to do the same thing and went in another direction. The only problem is that I don’t see something so jolly winning Sanremo. But hey, I wasn’t expecting a rock band to win last year, so…

Props for the flow of the show indeed. Only one night so far, and we got 12 at least okay candidates, two standout performances from Maneskin, Ornella Muti’s presence and anecdotes, Orietta Berti, the performance of Colapesce & Dimartino, and Medvza ft. Hozier. I can’t wait for the other nights! This is why I love Sanremo.

I agree, LRdL is also good. Very fun indeed. I’ll also add Massimo’s name. A really good old-fashioned song.

Måneskin definitely are something else. I still don’t believe Italy had such precious gem from years and it got the success they deserved only from Sanremo.

I’ll never be able to decipher the pacing of Sanremo. In most other selections, no matter how long they are, there is some pattern in how songs are presented. If they have 12 songs, it’s 6+6, or 3+3+3+3, or 4+4+4, or in any metric way. Sanremo just throws that logic out of the window, and we have 4 in a row, then two intervals, then one more song, the three more intervals, then two more songs, ect. It definitely keeps it unpredictable. 🙂

The comparisons with Maneskin don’t favour the participants of this year’s festival! The first night was decent but no song really made me get winner vibes. Maybe it’s because I have very high expectations from Sanremo. Waiting for some songs to grow on me!

Ana Mena’s song feels quite breezy, and has a really nice melody. Despite being in Italian, it sounds quite Spanish in style, which definitely adds to the diversity of this selection. And this wouldn’t be Sanremo without a cool rap song, so thank you for that, Rkomi!

Am I the only one here who did not like Mahmood’s and Blanco’s performance? It was like a bad battle from ‘The Voice’, their voices do not fit at all, they did not sing as a team and I could see no chemistry that everyone else below mentioned. Such a disappointment.

“Brividi” is quite stuck in my head after the first listen, I think the orchestration plays a key role here. I like how they alternate and superimpose their voices too. Have to wait until we have the final 25 songs to evaluate if this one can be my personnal winner or not but it remains a strong possibility at the moment.

It’s a love song and we could feel the electricity in the air! I’m curious to rewatch it while reading the lyrics, because the first time I read them, it wasn’t clear it needed to be a duet, but maybe there’s some extra storytelling when we pay attention to who’s singing which part.
