Sanremo 2022: Dargen D’Amico “Dove si balla”
Dargen — real name Jacopo D’Amico — makes a grand debut at Sanremo. But he’s made contact with the festival in two big ways previously: He was part of the artistic committee of Area Sanremo in 2013 and last year he co-wrote “Chiamami per nome” by Francesca Michielin with Fedez and “Dieci” by Annalisa. Now it’s time for him to get involved with the spotlight fully on him, after many hits produced with and for friends and colleagues.
D’Amico jokingly defines his genre as “emo rap,” hinting at the use of personal and intimate themes in his music.
What do the “Dove si balla” lyrics mean?
It’s time to dance, literally, with Dargen D’Amico, who transforms the Ariston stage into a club with a song with clear 90s vibes. The track, whose title translates to “Where do we dance?”, is an authentic declaration of love for dance music, the kind you can’t resist.
This is dance is cast as an antidote: to break the boredom of those who sleep without dreams, to react to a story that goes to hell, to express dissent against the masks we wear to protect ourselves.

English translationI like dance music I like it cause it tastes like you Lately I always sleep even if I don’t dream Where we’re going to dance Come on, put on dance music I’m not working tomorrow anyway and I’ll sleep all day long Where we’re going to dance Finally I’m 40 and I’m still hungry And you can’t make history if you don’t eat Where we’re going to dance |
What do you think of “Dove si balla”? Could it win Sanremo? Would it work at Eurovision? Comment below.
This song is really awesome! When I first read the name itself, I expected it to be a dance song. Well, Dargen did meet my expectations! But I never thought a dance song would be ranked 3rd. In Sanremo. Surprising.
I love this song! My favourite of the first night!
People who know Italian, is there really a face mask line there and what it is supposed to reference?
Well, I suppose dying of Covid is sadder than wearing a mask.
