Hot on the heels of the first one, the second semi-final of Eesti Laul 2022 is going live on 5 February. Ten more acts will perform for the last five qualification spots to the grand final. They’ll then get the chance to compete for the right to represent Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest this May in Turin.

Some time ago, we asked you the readers to vote for the semi-final two acts you want to qualify to the Eesti Laul 2022 grand final.

A total of 1,652 votes were cast. And we now have the results!

Stefan and Maian are your favourites to win Eesti Laul 2022 semi-final two

The poll’s runaway favourite was the returning Stefan, who earned 369 votes (22.34% of the total votes cast). He is no stranger to doing well in Eesti Laul, having placed third in 2019 and seventh in 2020.

This time, however, Stefan has ditched the tender ballads. His country-pop entry “Hope” is garnering a lot of fans. That coupled with his cultivated fame in Estonia could make him a threat to win the edition.

In second place, with 289 votes (17.49%), we have newcomer Maian. She sings the Spanish-Estonian tune “Meeletu”.

Maian has been leading the way when it comes to Spotify streams. But interestingly enough, she qualified to the live shows thanks to the jury, after the public picked another three acts. Time will tell if the momentum is on her side and her new fans push her to the end.

In third place, with 216 votes (13.08% of the total), we have Púr Múdd & Shira and their entry “Golden Shores”.

Notably, Shira failed to pass to the Eesti Laul 2022 live shows with her solo effort. But her duet with returning electro band Púr Múdd has yielded better results and has received much praise from the fandom.

It was a close race from there, with Eesti Laul 2020 runner-up Jaagup Tuisk at fourth. He was just one vote behind third place, picking up 215 votes (13.01%).

Then just three votes following him we find Anna Sahlene, the Estonian Eurovision representative who brought the host country to an impressive third place in 2002. Anna was awarded with 212 votes (12.83%).

Poll results: Who should qualify from semi-final two of Eesti Laul 2022?

  1. Stefan – “Hope” – 369 votes (22.34%)
  2. Maian – “Meeletu” – 289 votes (17.49%)
  3. Púr Múdd & Shira – “Golden Shores” – 216 votes (13.08%)
  4. Jaagup Tuisk – “Kui Vaid” – 215 votes (13.01%)
  5. Anna Sahlene – “Champion” – 212 votes (12.83%)
  6. Jyrise – “Plaksuta” – 120 votes (7.26%)
  7. Minimal Wind feat. Elisabeth Tiffany – “What to Make of This” – 70 votes (4.24%)
  8. Black Velvet – “Sandra” – 66 votes (4.00%)
  9. Evelin Samuel – “Waterfall” – 59 votes (3.57%)
  10. Boamadu – “Mitte Kauaks” – 36 votes (2.18%)

Total votes: 1,652

Eesti Laul 2022: Semi-final voting rules

As detailed in section 7 of ERR’s Eesti Laul 2022 rules, voting will work slightly differently in the semis compared to the quarter-finals.

Five acts will advance from each semi-final. The first three will be determined using a 50-50 combination of jury and public voting, while the remaining two qualifiers will come from a second round of public televoting from the acts that remain.

Unlike in previous years, there will not be a one-week gap between the semi-finals and grand final. Estonia will crown its Eurovision 2022 singer on Saturday 12 February.

What do you think? Do you feel the winner of Eesti Laul 2022 is in this semi-final? Let us know in the comments below!

Jaagup and Stefan only here. I’m coming around on Elina’s song. I don’t think it’s a weak entry at all. Maybe the expectation was sth loud and big from her that’s why it’s took a while. But remedy is actually beautiful and different.

I am mentally-prepared for Estonia to do Púr Múdd/Shira and Maian dirty tonight.
Sure we’re getting stuck with either “Sandra” and “Waterfall” in the final.

Sandra will qualify for sure. We’ll be lucky if Waterfall doesn’t

At least Sandra is a fun entry. But I hope at least either Maian or Shira makes it to the final :/
It’s rather disappointing to watch Eesti Laul, they have great entries but Estonians seem to like the same bland pop sung by a male. My fear about this is that alternative acts won’t be keen to participate in the future if they see they have no chance to get something from it, which is sad 🙁

Most alternative artists aren’t keen on ESC in general, because the contest has a reputation of being a pop competition ( and deservingly so). Some other national selections try to represent popular music broader, tho, which isn’t the case for Eesti Laul.

that is probably the most likely outcome, although I want maian, pur mudd/shira and jyrise instead of sandra sahlene and evelyn
