Eurovision 2023 is in the final stretch. But before anyone lifts the trophy, we have to go around the world and name our team’s winner. We submitted our scores several weeks ago — before rehearsals even started in Liverpool. So please note that this is more of our “studio cut winner” than our actual Eurovision winner (since we hadn’t seen any staging…)

Some of our long-time followers may be asking: Didn’t the Wiwi Jury already voteYes. But for the Wiwi Jury, our in-house panel of music unprofessionals each rated all 40 songs out of a 10, and the scores were simply averaged. When you do that all scores move toward the middle. It’s a useful exercise for us, as we all have to think about the songs critically and start to develop our favourites. But what exactly is the difference between a song with a score of 7.15 and a song with a score of 7.25 anyway? (Please don’t say 0.10). In this video, we’re voting “for” our individual favourites using the traditional Eurovision system of awarding countries points. This can change the rankings dramatically.

In our earlier Wiwi Jury, Sweden, Finland and Austria came out on top. Will history repeat itself here? You’ll need to watch our 25-minute show to find out!

Note: If you want to keep the results a surprise, then do NOT scroll to the end of this post or look at the comments on the YouTube video. They are full of spoilers! The Live Chat comments on YouTube are OK though — they add to the suspense and the drama. Happy viewing and big love to you all!

Below is the order in which our jurors vote. Please remember: Votes were submitted prior to rehearsals in Liverpool.

Of course Sweden will win. Finland it’s so trashy and really bad vocally. Thank God it’s not just trash voting….

Don’t ever say “of course”. Wins depend on the public vote and the public vote is not synonymous with voting for quality over trash. Having said that yes Kaarija’s vocals were quite bad. Many others were quite bad, especially in semifinal 1. Had there been a jury the results would have been quite different. So it is not just Kaarija. To end – considering everything I wouldn’t mind if Kaarija wins, though I won’t vote for him.

Despite everything, I still prefer televote-only semifinals, but we will have to live with the fact that from now on, some countries will always qualify no matter what just because of their diasporas. Case in point, Poland.

Also, we’ll have to live with the fact that entries designed for the contest will make it through

You know, listening to all the GF tracks back to back, I think this is an extremely strong final. Also, the more I look outside of the fandom the more I see Käärijä coming up again and again with the general public. I’d love to see Joker Out win but I think that’s very unlikely but I’d be pleased with a Finnish victory this year. If not, then Sweden or Spain would be worthy winners. I also love Italy so much suddenly and I hope that his beautiful, delicate voice reaches people. The only anomaly is Poland (thanks Polish diaspora!)… Read more »

Every single year when Poland qualifies all i can hear is Polish diaspora. Where tf was Polish diaspora in 2018-2021? Thanos snapped it out of existence?

Poland would have qualified in 2018 and 2019 on televote alone. The juries threw them out.

And 2021? Are we pretending this year didn’t happen to support this agenda?

No, 2021 did happen, and it’s an outlier, but have you seen (or even more importantly, heard) The Ride on stage? Of course that Poland, or any country for that matter, cannot count on support at any given time, even if the song is weak. But Poland would need a really weak song not to qualify on the televote, just like Sweden would need a really weak song not to qualify on the jury vote. Both is possible, of course.

Just to be clear, Poland had some *really* strong songs in recent years. The River is my winner of 2022, and Empires is in my top 5 from 2020. It doesn’t take away from that at all. Really good numbers don’t come from diaspora alone. But borderline qualification can sometimes depend on diaspora / neighbors when only televote is involved.

You honstly think it is a strong final??? Maybe I am getting too old, but for me this is the worst songcontest ever. No winner for me. Belgium, Austria and Portugal are a bit better than everage, the rest really is bloody awful. ALthough I can see the attracktion towards Finland, it’s not my style. Loreen repeats herself.

And once more, Norway is overhyped as hell. I would love to see them tank in the jury vote, since both the song and performance have 0 interesting things in them. I’d prefer Slovenia and the like to do better instead.

5 time old system jury winner you mean 🙂 Small country with no diaspora means San Marino 2.0, unfortunately. But still, good they are back, the more the better!

It has larger population than Iceland, San Marino, Malta, Montenegro. Just slightly less population than Estonia.
