I appreacite they trying to go for something more ecclectic and electronic but some of these songs are to noisy.

I’m not sure about this line-up, sounds pretty weak for me. Not even Dons really says something to me.

hollow by dons has a strong chorus that i can see really light up in malmø, and like estonia last year, maybe it could clench tenth place in a semifinal and hopefully get on the left of the scoreboard?

I don’t even need to say it, do I?
(It’s Dons “Hollow”)
Assuming that this works live, then please Latvia choose this song. Pretty please.

No shade, but can we just bring back Sudden Lights and hopefully put them in a better semi? lol

Dons has a nice song, but this NF has interesting options. Katrina and Vestules drew my attention. I hope that whoever gets chosen, Latvia can finally make it to the final tbh!

my favorite song from latvia this year is
V?stul?s – „Kur?“
also voted for – the offered songs are mostly ok but also very niche.
dons seems to be the big favorite also in the polls but latvia is latvia and that means nothing is clear until the winner is crowned.
so i see here a little underdog chance for the duo and they sing also in latvian (maybe an advantage in these days).
in my opinium kur? is also a grower – i hope that the duo can perform well live on stage.

🙂

Latvia is Latvia and has a clear winner for the third year in a row. Everyone in Latvia knew Citi Zeni and Sudden Lights would be the winners, and everyone knows Dons will be the winner this year.

Hollow is a potential winner of Eurovision. Seriously such a good song it’s up there at the top and Dons we know can deliver it to perfection.

I seriously would love to hear the other 90 songs that were submitted because I refuse to believe this is the top 15 best songs Latvia can produce for Eurovision. Dons should WALK this.

Latvia hasn’t been relevante since 2015’s Aminata. It seems to me a question of misselection cause they always had a better option. Sadly it was never given an opportunity for resilient artists like Edgars Kreilis, Markus Riva and Madara that certainly would fit great at Eurovision.

Edgars Kreilis? A good joke. Easy last place in semi with all of his entries (plus Latvian public dislikes him because he was violent towards his wife)

I found a few songs I like, my top:

1 Sasha Sil’s “Love is a Language” which I listened to several times.
2 Katrina Gupalo’s “The Cat’s Song” sounds quirky and pleasant with great stage potential; hopefully it will be done without too many clichés.
3 Jar of Kings with “Wildfire”.
4 Patricia Spale with “Heaven’s Raining Down on Me”.
5 Funkinbiz with “Na chystu vodu” which turns out to be Ukrainian, I think.
6 Vestules with “Kur?”.

Always have been. Supernova was literally the most overrated NF in the fandom. Sure the concept was fresh and cool, but the songs were always dire.

Is this being set up for Dons to win? Because some of these songs are just flat-out bad (Rock n’ Roll Supernova…oh dear) and couldn’t have made the shortlist from 108 songs.
I also find it hard to believe that Markus Riva didn’t enter considering he released a song last week that is at least as good as anything in this final lineup…so why was he kept out if not to prevent him winning a televote?

For me, just send the cat song. It’s somewhat enjoyable.

Markus would never win televote against Dons. Dons is an A lister in Latvia (like Brainstorm)

Ok, this nf is very bad and obviously Dons is the best choice, but also Dons is an absolute nq.
I don’t know what to think, I’d like something really risky, whatever happens, because even though Dons is the best, I don’t see him going to the final

Whilst everyone is backing Dons, it’s a good ballad but fails to hit properly in the space of 3 minutes. It moves a bit too slowly and needs a proper crescendo or mix up in the last 30 seconds. It’s like it needs an extra minute…but it IS beautiful! With a revamp it COULD be a top five jury winner. Not sure about the televote. However, I would rather something alternative go. Alekss, Avei, Saint Levica, Patricija and Agnese all have potential that we could see a lot more of depending on their live performance and staging and could hit… Read more »

Indeed, Dons seems to be the right choice. I’m not sure I would vote for it at Eurovision though. Not my cup of tea. But I would be soooo happy to see Latvia and/or Georgia back in the final.

Latvia is very musically experimental when it comes to Eurovision.
My picks would be Dons as it would be the most reasonable choice here, or Tick Tock more risky but still suitable fo the contest imo.

If Dons, who is one of the biggest name in Latvian music industry, does not qualify in Eurovision, I don’t think any other big names will apply for Supernova in the following years.
But who knows – maybe it would be for the better, to send someone new in music (like Justs was)

As a Latvian this is really disappointing. Every year we have Supernova and not even one year we can say that the quality of songs are great. It’s embarrassing. From all 108, how on Earth is only one song listen able.
I truly believe we should go internal selection otherwise this is just going to be a waste of time.

Bucket

Reply to  Edward

Internal selection might actually be a good idea, looking at last year and this year when there was a clear winner. LTV could increase the budget for the Eurovision performance itself instead of hosting Supernova, unless there are some rules by the government that they have to use those funds for local TV content, then Supernova is the best way to spend it, as it is the most watched show on LTV

Agreed ofcourse. Bigger names would definitely be attracted too, because I know that most of Latvian artists want to represent Latvia but they don’t want to go through the selection process. I can only see the benefits there

From the first listen I knew Sudden Lights would win last year and Patrisha would come second.

This year I predict Dons to win, but the 2nd place could go to anyone – could be Agnese, could be Katrina Gupalo, could be Papira Lidmasinas, or even Ecto. Depends on the live performances
