The 74th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival is hurtlling towards its grand finale. Night four was all about cover songs. The 30 acts performed renditions of other songs that weren’t their competing entries, either on their own or with special musical guests

Following the voting from the public, press jury, and radio jury, it was Geolier that emerged on top.

However, the reveal of his win didn’t go down too well inside the Artison Theatre. The audience proceeded to boo the Neapolitan star, clearly having other favourites from the line-up of stellar performances that we saw throughout the night.

La Noia was not my winner , but gosh I do understand and I do love and respect (first time cumbia at Eurovisión) the Italian choice. Thanks jury? Hope Napoli -city will survive this night ( I know how can it be football-wise so I hope for the best)

Let them pick Geolier, so that Spain, UK or Germany will not be in the bottom anymore. Italy and probably France will join them. All BIG 5 this year are doomed for bottom 5 in the final. In fact, it will be better to be renamed Bottom 5 countries instead of Big 5…

The show of yesterday has got the highers audience in all the 4th evenings od the history od Sanremo. 67,8%. When Irama and Cocciante performed the audience was around 17 million people. Practically one Italian out of 3. Crazy.

Explanation about the voting system at Sanremo: From tuesday to tonight the radio and press juries have voted with a score system from 1 to 10. This means that if Angelina scored a 9 across the juries and Geolier a 7 they had a difference so low that the televote had much more power (and we’ve always known that Geolier would’ve swept it). BUT! During the final round where the 5 best songs compete and everything resets, each member of the juries (both radio and press) will vote by assigning ONLY ONE PREFERENCE (they have to chose ONE SINGLE person… Read more »

Just watched Annalisa’s cover and she is freaking AMAZING. Why she wasn’t first baffles me!

However, I will say that whilst I was at work, the song of one of the other contestants really grew on me!

Let’s just say I want TOTAL victory now…

Because Annalisa does not have a story to prop her up like the rest of the top 3. Geolier is a poor to famous success story from Napoli. Angelina Mango is a sob story nepo baby whose father suffered a horrendous death whilst performing on stage when she was 13. This Sanremo isn’t really about music even though musically it is easily above all NFs.

Geolier will probably win the first part tonight with a massive margin, and with him to the superfinal goes Angelina, Annalisa, Irama and Mahmood…is my guess. If Loredana squeezes into that top, I have no clue who she will be throwing out really. Geolier will be unstoppable unless the juries decides to put an end to it…based on last nights voting they wont… Would be a shame to send him to Eurovision when we have at least 4-5 other that would shine in Malmö! Guess the hope is that Geolier turns Eurovision down, then we will have Angelina instead. Neither… Read more »

It seems that Geolier managed to come first even in the 33%-33%-34% voting format. I didn’t expect that and this possibly means that he has way higher chances of winning tonight than I thought. Angelina though is still the favourite in my opinion.
All in all I think Italy this year will disappoint me.

I wouldn’t mind if Geolier wins, it would be the first time a rapper win San Remo and in Eurovision first time Italy would bring rap and a never heard language on the esc stage. He would stand out.
If it’s Angelina, it’s cool too, she would bring a summary bop in Eurovision, but she wouldn’t stand out that much in an ocean of girls bops I fear…

Italy sung in Neapolitan in 1991, where it finished 7th. It was Peppino di Capri with ”Comme e ddoce ‘o mare”. So, Geolier would not bring a never heard language on ESC, albeit it would’ve been the language’s return after 33 years. But as ”Comme e ddoce ‘o mare” was internally selected for Eurovision, Geolier’s entry would have possibly been the first Sanremo winner in Neapolitan.

When accepting the prize for tonights win Geoliers face reminded me of Andreas Kümmert. And I think his fans won’t mind if he don’t go to Eurovision. For them, and for Southern Italy him winning Sanremo and by that giving the rich North a slap in the face at their home soil is what matters. That’s my prediction.

I would really love to see the South slapping the rich North in the face but the song doesn’t deserve to win and that would be disappointing. The best should win, not the one supported by whole Napoli. However, it also seems that surprisingly juries are supporting him too. Or his victory in televote is so immense that it overcomes other parts easily.

After 27 years, RAI has removed the veto to Jalisse on the participation to Sanremo. Finally. She is gorgeous and her voice is still very good.

Why were they vetoed anyway?

Because it seems RAI didn’t want them to win in 1997. They were first for the bookies. Rumours are a manager of RAI called EBU and “by a miracle” they arrived at 4th place. Ettore Andenna, the italian presenter and commentator for Italy at the time, confirmed these rumours. Jalisse were very vocal against RAI about this, so RAI vetoed their participation to further sanremos. They tried to present their songs each following year but have always been discarded.

Is this true. Best song of 1997

That’s so nasty. And RAI seems to hold long grudges. 27 years is a long time.

Even if this is true, “Love Shine A Light” was the best song and a very deserved winner!

Renga Nek. It’s cheating to just do your own songs, without even a guest. Boo.

Yes. I agree. They should do someone else’s song. Too easy to do the own ones.

Mannini’s voice perfectly suited Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente. Goosebumps again and again. Sanremo 2024 is an exceptional edition of the festival.

I dare disagree. His voice was too high/bland

Funny to see the “da ba dee da ba di” lyrics on the autocue, I would have thought they’d know them by now.

The stage and lights of this Sanremo are the best ever seem. I love it. It can show crazy effects. Much better than any Eurovision.
