Armenia’s Depi Evratesil 2018 kicks off in February. With all 20 acts having been revealed at the end of December, we now finally get to hear the songs.
Over the course of the next four days, we’ll hear all of the entries in full, with five songs being released each day. Today’s entries include Tamar Kaprelian and Depi Evratesil 2017 act, Amaliya Margaryan.
Amaliya Margaryan — “Waiting for the Sun”
Anyone who kept a close eye on last year’s Depi Evratesil may recognise Amaliya. As part of Hayko’s team, she made it to the duel stage, before knocked out by Anna Danielyan.
Amaliya has plenty of other TV show experience, too. She competed in Russia’s Golos in 2015, making it to the duel stage there as well. She also participated in X Factor Ukraine in the same year, singing Conchita’s “Rise Like a Phoenix” in her audition.
Hayk Kasparov — “Enamórame”
Hayk is bringing multi-national flavour with his entry, “Enamórame”. The Spanish-language song is written by the team of Rafael Artesero and Jose Juan Santana. Rafael wrote Andorra’s 2005 and 2006 Eurovision entries, while the duo most recently teamed up on Maika’s “Momento critico” in Objetivo Eurovision 2017.
There’s not just Spanish flair here though. Hayk is Armenian born, but currently lives in Germany. Amongst his previous plaudits, he’s won the Golden Lyre award in 2009 for “Best Song of the Month”.
Nemra — “I’m a Liar”
Nemra are a four piece band from Yerevan. The group describe their music as “outrageous Indie rock, a dream Soft rock with elements of British rock, Folk rock and even Meditative rock”. That’s a lot of rock, y’all!
Since forming in 2012, the band have played in multiple countries. In their own words, they’ve even “created (its) imaginary Nemra planet”. The group’s name is “Armen” backwards, standing for Armenia.
Tamar Kaprelian — “Poison (Ari Ari)”
The only act in the selection with true Eurovision experience. Tamar Kaprelian was part of Armenian supergroup Genealogy in 2015, entering with “Face the Shadow”. She’s been a popular figure amongst fans since then, and has been engaging regularly with them about her entry for Depi Evratesil, “Poison (Ari Ari)”.
In an interview with wiwibloggs, Tamar says “I want people in Armenia to know me as a songwriter, as a singer and as a social entrepreneur.” Will they also know her as their Eurovision 2018 representative?
Suren Poghosyan — “The Voice”
19 year old Suren lists himself as a “singer, director, actor”. He has previously attempted to enter X Factor Armenia and won 1st place in the “Pop Vocal” category at the Resonance International Music Festival.
Suren has even covered “Face the Shadow” on his YouTube page. He’ll be hoping to be singing his own song, “The Voice”, in Lisbon.
What do you think of the five acts revealed today? Do you think Armenia has a potential winner on there hands? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments section below!
Any Nemranians here???
Nemras song is the special one , i love it
It’s NOT because she’s a familiar name but Tamar’s song is perhaps my favorite so far. The staging is great potential but I’m curious how she will sound live.
Tamar’s song is really really good! I can already see it on a eurovision stage, this is the song to pick if we want a chance to win!
Amaliya and Nemra are decent but not too special. I really don’t like Enamorame (seriously a song in Spanish?? Where’s the logic, juries won’t like this at all) and The Voice (There will be at least 5 other songs similar to this at the contest, it’s forgettable).
So many Azerbaijani comments under Tamar’s video. Omg. And sometimes it’s really funny being an Armenian who knows Azerbaijani language perfectly to understand everything what they’re writing! I mean, leave Tamar alone. Please be objective in your judgements, dear neighbors. Even Dihaj was in my top more higher than Artsvik and “Skeletons” is still playing in my playlist (even though I think that Artsvik had a better live performance, I mean vocally she was really strong, hands down). Please, guys, Armenians and Azerbaijanis! Be more respectful to each other because I’m too tired to always see your fights under the… Read more »
There are a lot of dislikes, you possibly cannot expect them all from Azerbaijanis. As an Azerbaijani, I pressed the like button, since it was pretty good. I think you should search the answer in behalf of Armenia. It seems to me that there is a creepy game playing against Tamar.
Yeah true I can’t imagine all the hate to come from Azerbaijan sure some of them are but definitely not all 800+ I believe most of the hate comes from Armenians themselves and some hard-core asmik fans… I’m sooo ashamed of my own country for being so mean to such an incredible talented and smart girl she does so much for our musically talented teens and young adults and in return gets so much hate for it it just disgusts me
Tamar go home, you don’t have a voice.
My top 5:
1. “Poison (Ari Ari)” by the one, the only, Tamar Kaprelian 🙂 10/10
2. “Waiting for the Sun” by Amaliya Margaryan 9.5/10
3. “I’m a Liar” by Nemra 9.5/10
4. “The Voice” by Suren Poghosyan 7/10
5. “Enamórame” by Hayk Kasparov 6.5/10
Poison sounds like a demo, a good revamp wil help this song, in my opinion i think this only need get strength…
Exactly. Although it is my favourite atm, I think that will revamp the song and make the tempo more upbeat. If so, then this will sound like a winner. I think they will do this for live shows. But the song is really strong.
I had no doubt that Tamar was going to come out with something memorable and fun and ethnic and she has delivered. But, what shocked me is Amalya’s song. The girl has an amazing voice and the song while not very memorable, can do very very well at Eurovision (give me Sound of Silence vibes).
1. Tamar 10/10
2. Amalya 10/10
3. Suren 6/10
4. Hayk 4/10
5. Nemra 4/10
My favourite for sure is Tamar- Poison! If Armenia were to select this and I’m sure they will, I would love that this is the third ethno pop sounding song that they’ve sent for the third year in a row and it’s actually a really great bop aswell! I can see the staging for it now at Eurovision. It’s going to be amazing live. It has to be! ?
Poison is not bad. It’s actuslly very good and catchy. Love the traditional sound. It’s got the hook and makes you listen to it again.
The verses of Poison are awesome but the chorus is a big letdown unfortunately. I’m very pleasantly surprised with I’m A Liar <3
The other ones are all just mediocre for me.
It’s only 5 songs of 20 and people here complaining that line up is weak. Btw Tamar’s song is really a BOP <3
I think Poison would’ve sounded better with a more powerful singer. Tamar’s voice is too soft and delicate for a song like this.
Maybe Tamar can prove you wrong when she sings it live 🙂 live version I’m sure will be stronger anyway since we’ve actually heard Tamar sing live before for Face Your Shadow 🙂 she’s actually good live
Tamar’s song is the strongest here.
Oh Armenia, did you really think this is a good line-up? What a weak selection. I don’t even going to bother on commenting all these songs.Tbh, I was expecting something more from Tamar. Her song is probably the best from this bunch (which isn’t very difficult), but all the hype just for this? Special negative mention for “Enamórame”. What’s going on this year with these crappy, cheesy, bland, weak, awful and disastrous try hard “Despacito” wannabe songs? Those Spanish composers are ridiculous, they are always producing this outdated and non-sense songs. Seriously, the lyrics are pathetic, as the ones in… Read more »
Not very promising so far. “Poison” at least has that ethnic spice that I always expect from Armenia. “Waiting for the Sun” is very decent, but you already forgot it when the song ends. I kinda like “I’m a Liar” but I don’t think it works in an Eurovision context (and yeah, I meant context, not contest). The other songs just bored me.
Tamar-song-0/10
Hayk-0/10
Suren-02/10
Amalia-06/10
Nemra-09/10
Seriously you think Nemra is good? Ok well if you want Armenia to miss the final then good for you I guess
Bravo!!! 100% agree!
Yessss I am loving Tamar’s song.
Tamar and Suren are legit! Tamar’s ethno-pop entry gets my 12pts doe.
All of these songs need remastering, though. lol
Poison is a BOP. One of my fav songs I’ve heard in the national finals so far.
I like that ethnic vibes in Poison
Nemra ??
Nemra the best
Quality, interesting lyrics, fresh and with taste -Nemra.
Ari Ari is really good I don’t get the hate…
I also don’t like any of these songs.
“Waiting for the sun” is a pretty good song. Beautiful voice and it has the potential of having a great staging. “Enamorame” won’t go far I believe four 2 reasons: 1) it doesn’t have the Armenian element, it’s more pop music of western Europe and 2) it’s in another language besides Armenian and English. Honestly, I don’t know why he sings in Spanish. Not a bad song, but not for Armenia. “I’m a liar”: Here’s the thing with this song. It’s really good, I like it, but I it gets repetitive after a while. Also, I like the chorus more… Read more »
Zoe did sing in french as Austrian representative and did well. We should stop having prejudices about the language an artists choses to represent his country. Let him sing chinese if he wants to xD
nemra the best
Fake dislikes under Tamar’s video. In 2 minutes 400 dislikes – while in 40 minutes it had 200 likes and 15 dislikes. Maybe one of contestants shared the link to late with it’s army .
Hope Sevak and Gata Band have better songs to offer.
Slightly Under whelmed ngl. Looking forward to my girl asmiks song on Wednesday
Slightly Under whelmed ngl. Looking forward to my girl asmiks song on Wednesday
I think Kamil is gonna do very well! Mark my words!
IDIOT
I think it will be a 1 on 1 battle with Tamar and Asmik but I’m 100% certain that Tamar will get to go to Eurovision but that doesn’t mean I don’t think asmiks song will not be great. I’m sure it will be a big hit in Armenia and other countries but from what I heard about it so far, it doesn’t sound like her song would be right for the contest but let’s just wait and see on Wednesday I guess ? but I will say this, Tamar is going to win and I stand by that ?
Unfortunatly it won’t be between them! Mger Armenia has powerful support (I don’t mean fans, its a different support) and the only person who has huge army of fans is Sevak Khanagyan. Kamil gonna get the protest votes too! Tamar has no chance to win by televotes and usualy international jurors don’t like folk and bilingual stuff! We will talk after the final!
Amalya’s song is cute and Tamar’s song can become a real hit if some changes are done and if culmination gets stronger /more bombastic/.
Hilarious how Tamar is hated by the fans of other contestants. In facebook noticed comments where some fans claimed that the song of other contestant is better but it’s funny that the song mentioned in their comments is not even published!
1. Tamar Kaprelian 7/10
2. Amalya 6,5/10
3. Nemra 6/10
4. Suren 5/10
5. Hayk Kasparov 3/10
Hope tomorow there will be better Armenian made songs
I’m not a huge fan of any of those 5 songs – but there are 15 songs left and I think it is possible they’re saving the reveal of the best for later.
Somebody, anybody tell Armenia that it’s 2018 for God’s sake. What are those songs? lol They sound so old-fashioned and boring and cliché (yes, I am looking at you, Tamar).
I didn’t like any of the songs presented so far. Things don’t look good for Armenia.
Tamar’s song is soo underwhelming. I had huge hopes.
Poison is really good…..love it!
ENAMÓRAME is getting into my head….its so good too.
The Spanish one is so good it’s fun and punchy, like Inna x Spanish x Armenia, the others are just boring ballads, Tamar’s one is second for me, it’s kind of like 08 Gaga x Armenia
This is not what I expected. Such a disappointment. I can’t see any of these songs qualifying to the Eurovision final unfortunately. :/
Nothing intersting … Destination Eurovision songs are better
I don’t like any of these songs. Perhaps they presented the worst ones first. Looking forward to the other songs.
the winner is not in the first 5 songs hoping for better in the next few days
Well, actually none of them is bad… but definitely something is missing from all of them
I don’t know why everyone hates it , I think ENAMÓRAME is better than Poison. It starts off promising but ends up sounding like a Lady Gaga song from 2008 (Paparazzi in particular). Someone said that this is better than Malta and Switzerland combined but both have at least 2 or 3 different songs. However there are still 15 songs to be released. Surprisingly I think the Czech Republic and Albania have had the strongest national finals although I think La Forza from Eesti Laul is the best song so far. Also I still miss Orgesa 🙁
Not agree melfest or destination eurovision will be the strongest national final this year
I agree with you, Katz. La Forza is still the best song I’ve heard from any NF.
Lol if you re into classic or opera maybe but we are in 2018, songs as La forza have been already seen in esc(france 2011 and others),nothing new so stop the bad faith maybe.
Pathetic bad faith…. we have seen many many times songs like la forza in esc (france 2011 and others) then nothing new but we are in 2018, open your mind maybe. republic czech or albania best national final Looooooooooooool you’re so funny !! But completety Out.
A lot of them have interesting instrumentals, but beyond all the decorations it is indeed quite generic and not very memorable, hope the next bunch will have better songs.
Amaliya Margaryan — “Waiting for the Sun” (Nice song, nothing memorable, tho.) Hayk Kasparov — “Enamórame” (I like some parts, but his voice is so bad and unexperienced that even the studio version can’t do anything about it.) Nemra — “I’m a Liar” (A “Summer Wine” rip-off, retro *not in the good way* and boring) Tamar Kaprelian — “Poison (Ari Ari)” (I hate it when songs start promising, then bury themselves six feet in dirt. The ethno parts are salvageable… but they need a better song.) Suren Poghosyan — “The Voice” (There are hundreds of songs like this one. Literally!… Read more »
No songs please me here, 2 boring ballads, 2 catchies but weaks songs, and one group with a not bad song but not good too…..
I don’t like any of these songs. Hoping for other entries that can impress me like a winning song.
These 5 are better than Malta and Switzerland together. LOL
We can have hope for switzerland but with these 5 songs here no sorry
Honestly I don’t hear even a qualifier here. The best songs are the Spanish one and Waiting For The Sun. Tamara was a let down.
“Song for Dad” from Malta and all of the songs from Swiss selection is actually better than these five songs of Armenia I think.
Sorry…? Are we listening to the same songs?
I really really like Ari Ari !!
Emorame is also good.
So is voice!! Sorta reminded me of Gabrelius vagelis’ song from last year in Lithuania.
