Last May Sweden was knocked out during the semi-finals for the first time in its storied Eurovision history. But with the announcement of the first four contestants for Melodifestivalen 2011, its national selection contest, Sweden is dusting itself off and hopping back on the Eurotrash saddle.
Linda Bengtzing, a pop singer who rose to fame on the Swedish series Fame Factory, is competing in Melodifestivalen for the fourth time, following failed attempts in 2005, 2006, and 2008. You can watch her competing with Hur Svart Kan Det Va? in 2008 below. If you look at her in passing you might mistake her for Victoria Beckham!
Lasse Stefanz, one of Sweden’s most popular country music dance bands, will sing En Blick Och Något Händer. The group formed in 1967, so perhaps they’re hoping Melodifestivalen will give them a kick start after more than 40 years together. (It’s kind of like how couples introduce toys in the bedroom when things go dull).
Pernilla Andersson, a blond bombshell who has released six albums in Sweden, may boast a name that is a Swedish transliteration of Pamela Anderson.
Swingfly, a Swedish-American rapper, was born Ricardo DaSilva II. He’s best known for his collaboration with the Teddy Bears on their 2004 single “Hey Boy.”
