During the recent Eurovision pre-party tour, we heard dozens of acts perform their songs live to packed audiences in Riga, Amsterdam, Moscow, London and Tel Aviv. One act we missed hearing was Greece’s Argo.

Thankfully they righted that wrong last Friday, performing their song “Utopian Land” live at the INFE Greece Eurovision Party in Athens.

Let there be no doubt: This group can sing. The female vocalists blend beautifully and lead vocalist Christina Lachana really knows how to serve an intoxicating mix of mystery and sensuality. The rap segments are very confident and assured — no nerves here!

Every year INFE Greece hosts a special Eurovision party, welcoming the Greek entry and other guest Eurovision stars performing. This year’s acts included Constantinos Christoforou, Barrice,Risky Kidd and of course Argo — the band formerly known as Europond.

The band also covered Sergey Lazarev’s “You Are The Only One” and Minus One’s “Alter Ego”. You can watch those performances here.

Following the party, Argo spoke with Greece’s Alpha TV and responded to the criticism their song has received:

Both negative and positive comments are welcome. Negative comments make us better because we read them and when they are correct, try to improve ourselves. Our goal right now is to focus on the task at hand and this is to do our best in the stage of Stockholm…

And who do they fear the most?

We’re not afraid of the other songs, we like the other songs. We really like France and Australia, but our favourites change day by day…

Wiwibloggs had a quick chat with Mr. Makis Charalampopoulos —the Vice President of INFE Greece — regarding the party and the Greek Eurovision entry.

We hope that many people will join us on our journey to the “Utopian Land” this year. During this tough year for Greece, with the crisis escalating, affecting more nations, whether they admit it or not, and with the refugee crisis making one of the most serious problems Europe faces today, Greece adopts the tagline of this year’s Eurovision, “Come Together”, and invites everyone to a utopian journey.

Our band — young people with really good voices — lead the way on this journey…With the support of ERT and INFE Greece, I wish Argo the best. On our side we will continue our Argonautica to support Argo, as we did since the song was announced and as we did last night with our party. Many of us will be in Stockholm to fly the Greek flag. We have the only ethnic song this year — we hear our own language, as well as the pontic dialect, so we expect the support of Greek people all over the world… We love Eurovision and we’ve proven that with the numerous events we’ve hosted since 1988. So, good luck Greece!

My 16, hope they qualify, we need quality and diversity, and this is great at both.

I’d love to see them coming back one day with a breathtaking song as I really like their attitude, but they won’t slay this year as many people (me too) don’t like the too greek-sounding influences. I’ll be happy if they come back one day and I wish them good luck anyways ^^.

I actually quite like this song, glad to hear their live is strong. Also I appreciate what the performers and the VP of INFE Greece had to say. Very professional and sportsmanlike.

One thing that keeps popping up in my mind: isn’t the lyric actually “with the *rays* of the rising sun” — I feel like her accent is causing some to mishear “rays” as “rise”.

This is one of my favourites. I don’t go wow about it, but in a very weak year where most of the songs sound alike, it stands out in a positive way. They are very alone on representing that type of music.

@Loo: It will go to the final if you vote on it like a madman drinking free alcohol and wet-dreaming about Sakis Rouvas … God knows why.

As far as I’m concerned these guys should be sunsetting their own sun and stay hidden in the dark of night for as long as I care … what a waste of time this musical demo is …

They can sing, yes, but this is a song contest and their song is a mess.

I am from Greece, and I think the live performance is much better! (I was dancing) At the end the music is a bit messy but I still like the song much more! Can’t wait to see this in stockholm! 😀

I never expected to say that, but the live performance of the song is surprisingly good! It is much higher in my top 42 now and I actually have to say that I’m proud of my country’s entry this year!

The beggining of the song is sooo good but then it’s very messy, it’s a shame…

The song is still a mess, but it comes across much better live. I think I will actually enjoy this much more on the day of the semi final ! Still, even though it’s Greece, I think it will struggle to go to the final
