Yesterday the Dutch Eurovision entrant Joost Klein was pulled out of the first dress rehearsal for the grand final of Eurovision 2024 pending an investigation of an incident. And today the EBU has made the decision to exclude the Netherlands from competing in the Eurovision grand final.
In an EBU statement the organiser said:
“The Dutch artist Joost Klein will not be competing in the Grand Final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Swedish police have investigated a complaint made by a female member of the production crew after an incident following his performance in Thursday night’s Semi Final. While the legal process takes its course, it would not be appropriate for him to continue in the Contest.
We would like to make it clear that, contrary to some media reports and social media speculation, this incident did not involve any other performer or delegation member.
We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour at our event and are committed to providing a safe and secure working environment for all staff at the Contest. In light of this, Joost Klein’s behaviour towards a team member is deemed in breach of Contest rules.
The Grand Final of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest will now proceed with 25 participating songs.”
Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS have made it clear, that they do not agree with the decision and will take further action.
UPDATE: Several artists were not present during the flag parade of the family show this afternoon: Ireland, Greece and Switzerland. In addition the show started 17 minutes late.
The EBU have also clarified that Dutch viewers will still be able to vote during Saturday night’s grand final. The country will still award points, just like those countries who failed to qualify through the semi-finals.
As a result of no participation from the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final the following will take effect:

Now that we know what happened, here’s a crazy theory: Joost is a pretty rebellious guy. Perhaps the ‘moon landing’ that was supposed to happen was a stunt in support of Pstine, saved for the grand final. EBU found out somehow, and therefore wanted to get rid of him. Anyways, I hope the NL sues the EBU for all the expenses they made this year.

He did not punch anyone. According to a new report released he said several times he didnt want to be filmed backstage and when he came off from rehearsal a woman kept filming him. She was asked to stop several times and when she didnt he made a “threatening movement” towards her.
