He’s the boy next door with the cute looks, cute voice and cuter song who is hoping to follow Zoë’s success and take Austria to the grand final for a fourth consecutive year.
And now Austrian broadcaster ORF has announced that Nathan Trent will prep for Kyiv in May by recording four acoustic covers of Eurovision songs from past contests.
Austria may not have staged a national final, but now they are turning power to the people by asking them to decide on the songs Nathan will lend his vocals to in a series of scintillating covers.
The candidate songs are an eclectic mix and if they’re on Nathan’s own top playlist we approve. It’s the perfect mix of ballads, bangers, Eurovision winners, Eurovision legends, fan favourites and fan flops.
In total four winners are in the mix: Lena, Loreen, Conchita Wurst and Måns Zelmerlöw.
They’re joined by Italy’s 2013 act Marco Mengoni, four further acts from Eurovision 2015 (Guy Sebastian, Polina Gagarina, Elhaida Dani and Edurne), and France’s 2016 act Amir.
Nathan Trent Acoustic Cover Options
Rise Like a Phoenix – Conchita Wurst (AUT, 2014)
Euphoria – Loreen (SWE, 2012)
J’ai cherché – Amir (FRA, 2016)
L’essenziale – Marco Mengoni (ITA, 2013)
Amanecer – Edurne (ESP, 2015)
I’m Alive – Elhaida Dani (ALB, 2015)
Heroes – Måns Zelmerlöw (SWE, 2015)
Satellite – Lena (GER, 2010)
A Million Voices – Polina Gagarina (RUS, 2015)
Tonight Again – Guy Sebastian (AUS, 2015)
For language fans that means they could see Nathan lend his lips to French, Italian and Spanish songs over the four weeks that the covers are released.
Readers can vote in the above ORF post until Saturday. The first cover will debut on April 5 and from then on the other three covers will appear weekly on Wednesdays, taking us all the way to the start of Eurovision fortnight.
Which song do you want to see Nathan sing? Vote above and also in our poll below. Then let us know how you voted in the comments box.

I found Eurovision 2017 Estonia song in estonian language.

I accidentally voted for Tonight Again, which I’d rather not listen to him cover. xD Satellite would be great/hilarious, though!
on second thought, i wanna hear him singing lena’s “satellite”… “i bought new underwear, they’re blue” would’ve sounded hilarious!
this is fun! i wanna hear him singing the female songs.
Voted for Polina Gagarina’s song.
since I have heard he is a helf italian so l want him cover the song by Marco Mengoni
@Manu
Then shut up. You’re negativity and existance won’t bring a change to this world.
I’m surprised that ORF didn’t have any of Udo Juergens’ three Eurovision entries as one of the options provided.
I’d love to hear Nathan sing “Merci, Cherie”.
Nobody caaarees 😀 He’s gonna flop anyway.
As much as I’d love for him to sing a non-English song, I really want him to do I’m Alive as it was one of my favourites from 2015 and I’m glad it’s not going unappreciated in the polls.
Does anyone want me to cover Amanecer? 🙂
No?!?! 🙁
Bye!
I am fluent in 5 languages as well, and I even get Czech and Portuguese… pfffff!!!!
Wow, he is handsome, a great singer, speaks 5 languages and seams to have a great personality too! I have a good hunch he will pull a ‘Loic Nottet / Douwe Bob’ in May and be a surprise of the evening. I’d like him to cover any of these songs, but non-English ones intrigue me the most.
Of course I’d love him to sing A Million Voices by my beloved Polina. I have to clean my ears from that terrible cover of the song by Artsvik, it still haunts me at night 🙁
This man actually is fluent in five languages (german, italian, english, spanish and french) so i would love to hear him sing in all of these languages. he can handle that – his live vocals are amazing!
I wish he tried something in estonian language… like Rändajad or Kuula.
J’ai cherché- I think it will sound great acoustic
Before reading the list I wanted to say Origo-Papai Joci. Voted L’essenziale.
Nathan can actually speak spanish pretty well (if his message to the mexican fans is any indication) so seeing him do Amanecer would be pretty cool, but I’m rooting for J’ai Cherché, L’essenziale and I’m alive.
I picked L’Essenziale, because it’s my favourite song of the last 5 years :).
Nothing like Suus to test his vocal abilities. But that’s not necessary!
MARGARET – COOL ME DOWN!!!! pleaseeee
slavko kalezic with ”space”
I voted for “Satellite” because blue underwear related reasons.
@Pavel YES!!!
AMANECER definitely
I would like to hear it acoustically.
Why do you need to make it hard? Pick Amaneseur.
I’m Alive, Amanecer, A Million Voices, Heroes, and Euphoria all have really long notes in them that are hard to hit (Elhaida and Edurne couldn’t even hit theirs). I’d like to see him take on all those challenges! Especially I’m Alive and A Million Voices.
I’m Alive!
None
Nocturne or The Voice
Assuming Nathan can only speak German and English as a second (or other) language, I’d like to see him tackle Amanecer, J’ai Cherche and L’essenziale. Most of the Anglophone choices are too safe as they are songs that anybody can sing to but I wanna see him do I’m Alive.
Rise like a phoenix in German!
Or
A million voice
I really want to see how his vocals would fit to Elhaidas epic song
I really want to see how his vocals would fit to Elhaidas epic song ????
I’m Alive and Amanecer
