ulrikke

After five semi-finals, Norway will select its Eurovision entry in the final of Melodi Grand Prix 2020 on Saturday. We’ve now heard all ten finalists — five pre-qualifiers and five semi-winners. And for those looking to put their money where their mouth is and have a flutter, the guesswork can begin.

Of course, odds always change but who is currently leading the race according to the bookies?

Melodi Grand Prix 2020 Odds: Ulrikke Brandstorp favourite to win

Top of the list with Betsson is Ulrikke Brandstorp and her power ballad “Attention”. She’s currently trading at 2.0 to win.

Ulrikke was among the pre-qualifiers and showcased her entry in semi-final four.

The singer has a long history of participating in singing competitions including Idol, The Voice Norway and Stjernekamp. She also competed in MGP 2017. Then she came fourth.

Melodi Grand Prix 2020: Other favourites

Currently sitting in second place with odds of 5.0 are the Solli-Tangen brothers — Didrik and Emil with “Out of Air”.

Didrik has Eurovision pedigree. He was the host country representative at Eurovision 2010 with “My Heart is Yours”. He placed 20 out of 25 in the grand final.

Third with the bookies at odds of 6.0 is fan favourite Raylee. The “Wild” hitmaker is steadily building momentum. Not only did she win semi-final one, her entry has been streamed over a million times on Spotify.

Rein Alexander is fourth. He won semi-final two with the epic One Last Time”. He can be backed at 7.0.

Two acts share fifth — Magnus Bokn with “Over The Sea” and Liza Vassileva with “I Am Gay”. Both are trading at 10.0.

Bokn has a strong team behind him, with both JOWST (2017) and Alexander Rybak (2009 and 2018) having song writing credits on his number.

Vassileva, however, has drawn some criticism for her entry. Contrary to the message of her song, she is a cis-gendered straight woman.

Melodi Grand Prix 2020 Bookmakers’ Odds – 11 February Update

  1. Ulrikke Brandstorp 2.0
  2. Didrik and Emil 5.0
  3. Raylee 6.0
  4. Rein Alexander 7.0
  5. Magnus Bokn 10.0
  6. Liza Vassilieva 10.0
  7. Tone Damli 12.0
  8. Sondrey 25.0
  9. Akuvi 25.0
  10. Kristin Husoy 25.0

Odds correct as of 10:00 CET 11 February 2020 via Betsson

There are no jury votes this year… just public. Still believe Ulrikke will win, but perhaps Raylee can surprise the bookmakers?

The jury always vote in boring songs. When in The Eurovision stage have no emotion. Raylee and Rein Alexander is better than Ulrikke song.

Raylee is better than Ulrikke. The Urike’s song is boring!

I think ulrikke will win. Raylee and ulrikke are almost equally popular with ‘the people’, but the jury will vote for ulrikke. So I don’t see how raylee can beat her!?

attention as winner in norway will be one of jury darlings in rotterdam for sure but this song has not the timeless class of norways songs from 2015 or 2013.
i miss something special in this song.
attention is one of these songs per example also estonias “jaagup tuisk – beautiful lie” sailing in the fairway of last years winnersong arcade.

Didrik and Emil’s performance was horrible. I don’t think they stand a chance. I expect this to be between Ulrikke and Raylee, with Ulrikke getting the edge. Maybe Tone could be a dark horse, but I don’t think so.

For me, it comes down to three people: Ulrikke, RayLee, and Rein Alexander.

An uptempo song would stand out if we will get many ballads this year. Hope Norway can go this direction.

Hopefully Rein Alexander. He looks like he is 70+ but he is 48 IIRC. Raylee is really overrated, sounds like some old Melodifestivalen song from Sahara or that black girl (not racist). Same with Fuego, it was not a top 5 song at all. Attention isnt a winner, she reminds me of that MF singer with curly hair, or maybe Lucy Jones from UK 2016 (was it2015 or 2017?) Erling Braut Håland should represent Norway in 2021 I think. He´s maybe a very good singer. And pls wiwibloggs react to UMK 2020. But maybe you are waiting because the final… Read more »

I don’t understand the appeal of Attention. She has a amazing voice but it all leaves me cold. I think it has more similarities to Lucie Jones in that it can impress judges more than voters. And I think there will be plenty of strong female voices to compete against it this year. Some are bound to fall through the cracks like in 2017

The sound/instrument in this song is modern and outstanding, so are Ulrikkes vocal skills and performance.

I do fear that Ulrikke will be overrated by the fandom and in the wider sphere of ESC she will be yet another ballad. Although the similarities to Undo are there, the musical palette was also very different in 2014. She is one of my absolute favourites and I am sure her performance will be absolutely stunning, I have no doubt she will win (she mentioned in the YouTube comments that her staging for the semi final is not everything and she is saving her ‘favourite’ dress for the final). A big part of me would like to see Akuvi… Read more »

Not their only choice but by far the best and the only chance NRK would have of securing a fourth Norwegian victory.
