They’re among the most talked about acts of Eurovision 2024 and have shown that Ireland can do dramatic, dark and in-your-face with the best of ’em. And now Bambie Thug is casting a spell yet again — this time with the “Doomsday Blue” music video.

Working with Dublin-based CAMP — a production company “run by a collective of misfits changing the industry” — Bambie has given the song a comedic spin in this visually arresting music video that feels more like a short film.

Bambie Thug shares “Doomsday Blue” music video

Here’s how the non-binary artist described the production.

“Filming the music video for Doomsday Blue was mad! I’m so proud to have worked with an amazing team filled with so many queer and non-binary people. Camp are a dream to work with, and while the turnaround was ridiculously fast, there was a lot of heart and passion poured into it and I’m super grateful.”

“Originally the story for the video was very dark, but since winning the Late Late Show Eurosong, there have been so many people reaching out about how their children love the song, so I wanted to make sure the video was something enjoyable and accessible for people of all ages. My sister and I eventually came up with this idea of making it a little more cutesy, spooky and comedic. There’s a lot of odes to pop culture moments in there from Mean Girls and Barbie to The Creation of Adam (Michelangelo)…obviously all made a bit goth. I’m excited to share it with everyone and have it out in the world… now I can focus on bringing it to life on stage in Malmö.”

The Irish broadcaster RTÉ says:

“The video depicts Bambie Thug making a “Note to Self” to place a hex on their ex-boyfriend and conjure up a “better new boyfriend” who they dream they can enjoy a game of badminton and have a tea party with… but the reality turns nightmarish when Bambie finds themselves being chased through a forest by a 7 foot tall hairy monster. So grab yourself a cup of Melancholic Tonic and a slice of blue frosted cake and join the Doomsday Blue party!”

Ireland compete in Semi-Final 1 of Eurovision 2024 on Tuesday, May 7.

So it’s a day later (post Bambie release) and I’ve got my two favourites. Doomsday Blue and Europapa… And you know why? Both are completely different music styles, and I jive with both; but; both also have the most immersive ‘can’t look away’ performances that continue to flip pace, intensity, and mood throughout their 3(ish) minutes. Their videos, whilst completely different in style and theme, are fine tuned, having meaning that complements the lyrics, tell their story, and are highly dramatic. Both artists play to the camera for short moments, but the ‘storytelling’ progresses with us as viewers as opposed… Read more »

When they announced that Scarlet would take part in MF and everyone thought their entry would be the most extreme and hardest thing ever seen on a MF stage…they were thinking about Bambie Thug! Instead Scarlet ended up being the most rated G entry of all kinda compared to this rated R entry from Ireland this year!LOL!

More drama for Hera: Ásdís María Viðarsdóttir, one of her own songwriters doesn’t want her to go and suggested RUV should just sent the Palestinian. You don’t enemies when you have friends like this. The deadline can’t come soon enough to end all this idiocy.

It’s very sad, especially how she moves against her own singer who agreed to sing her dire song and elevated it so much that it actually won. She should be thankful, without Hera she’d never get a song into Eurovision if that’s the best she can write. But winning the virtue signaling contest is more important to her, obviously.

So she should suck up the fact the song she wrote for won off the backs of people hating the other act instead of loving her act? Why are we blowing this out of proportion when she is showing the bare minimum backbone and morals in saying “Hey, I don’t like that this song was massively voted for because people hated the other song/artist”

The gall of saying this all in a post about Ireland when it’s one of the primary countries in all of Europe who are Pro-Palestinian, they’ve tasted the treatment they’re currently receiving thanks to their history with England and coming here to do more of your petty fearmongering about “the evil pro-palestinians” is so gross.

I thought that when RTE made the Eurosong contest this year that they had absolutely no interest in Eurovision anymore, all contestants had to use that cheap stage, poor production & appalling sound, the worst I’ve seen in an awfully long time. The song itself is not my thing but the overall package performing on the big stage will be something seeing Bambie’s creativity and it makes me curious.

The visuals here are just bog-standard cutesy Tumblr witchcraft aesthetic. I much prefer the visuals Bambie did for her Egregore and Tsunami music videos. I hope they do justice for this song with the staging in Malmo, if the aesthetic is similar to this music video I can see the song getting overlooked.

I think for the Bambie crew this is making the song some more accesable for the mainstream ESC audience.

I do agree the Egregore and Tsunami music videos are very aestetic and avant garde. Tho maybe too disturbing for some?

Yeah… I think it’s quite respectful to the EBU and ‘family’ audience, and expect the live show to work from the video aesthetic more than the Eurosong. You can see the thought that it was given.

That’s a fair point. Eurovision is supposed to be age-appropriate for everyone after all.

I’m still hoping for a sprinkle of spice and avant-garde in the staging. If Bambie brings those cutesy witch dresses and demon/bear boyfriend from the music video on stage in Malmo, people will count it out as a joke entry, when it’s not at all.

Im confident that the artistic approch of Bambie and team of their stageshow in Malmö will be excellent.
Its hit or miss on this imo.

Wasn’t a fan when it won the NF, but after hearing Greece yesterday, this is pure poetry in comparison!

It’s giving satanic and demonic vibes, not into it sry.. currently among my last places. Props to Ireland though for sending something out-of-the box for once, maybe it will pay off.

What a fantastic video. I’m so glad it removes the image of the studio performance by RTE on the Late Late Show which looked like the song was being performed in a school concert hall. Good Luck Ireland

Kind reminder that Bambie Thug’s pronouns are They/Them and Fae/Faer. It’s totally fine if you didn’t know this.

Oh. I’ve heard of They/Them, but the other ones are new to me. Is there any Bambie-specific origin to Fae/Faer?

Beautiful clip. On stage the white hair would work better. But the song is difficult.

That’s true… It would pick up any stage-light colour and make her more visible in that enormous stage.

The backing dancers with the long nails should also be on the stage imo. Not 2 but 4. Thats worked perfectly on the Late Late show in the small setting of the broadcasterstudio.

I hate on stage ‘furniture’ per se, but if those ‘groove-monsters’ were melded/camouflaged into a tree and ‘slurped’ out as the story progressed on stage it might help.

The led floor and walls can alter between hex-haus, dream-forest, and day-mare.

Perhaps the groove-monsters create the manbeast along with Bambie; and then they all go wild…. Frankenstein meets Teddy Bears picnic meets beauty and the beast?

Or just sing… You know… Whatev’s 🙂

Wonderfull!!
Such a well crafted video created by the irish delegation.
For me this is art.
People will either love or hate it.

Hope there will be enough support for them making it into the Finals.

I appreciate every artist and their work, but this song is horrific and one of a kind. If Ireland wanted to send something different or authentic, they could conveniently ask for advice from Greece, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

I can’t believe, Ireland, a 7-trophy ESC country, with such a music industry, sends this.

Good luck, Eire!

If you want to do something different you don’t seek advice, you do you own thing. Most of the Eurovision cognoscenti are applauding Ireland for taking a risk and not copying other countries.

Doomsday Blue is definitely not the type of song I’d listen to usually but tbh I kinda like it and find it waaaaay better than Greece and Netherlands. The Netherlands currently are the last place of my top… All of this is a matter of taste.

I don’t think it’s a matter of taste. You can judge a song on its merits even if it’s not your taste. The Dutch song is a tribute to the happy hardcore genre, among other things, and as such it’s very well done. Just like this Irish song is great, just not a regular mainstream pop song.

Joost and Bambie are my top favs untill sofar.

For me they bring a concept of art.
Untill now the most unique entries.

I see the craftmenship of the artists and their creative teams with them.

Its not everybodies cuppa tea.
Thats good.

If there were no different spices put into the mix of baking the ESC cake it would taste like in our daily bread.

I haven’t heard Greece yet, but love Bambie and think Joost’s song has some great connection points for the live and TV audience.

I think theirs a place for all these ‘fever-dreams’. It certainly will break-up the semi’s and final.

@Sherlock: did you check out other material online of Bambie??
I loved it.
They are such creative artists and with they I mean Bambie and all the creative artists in their group.

Good seeing other artists are getting involved in the contest with diff takes on how things are being done.
Its good creativity is showing in a diff way .
We might call that the Hatari or Kääriä-effect.

Some call these acts Bonkers, Joke or Clown acts.
For me the quality ones are refreshing the ESC field.

But its all in the eye of the beholder.

Oh lord yeah… Before Eurosong. My least favourite ‘track’ was Doomsday Blue… Love Bites, Tsunami, Headbanger, Merry Christmas Baby, Necromancy… All amazing.

This new video and the little blow-up, is making me love ‘song’ more… But the ‘artist’ is my winner… They deserve recognition.

Bambie Thug and Joost are after Hatari the best material I found on this plarform the last decade!

This is one of the few songs at Eurovision which is actually good in its genre. You have to be a little familiar with the genre of course, or a little open-minded. The song is very well done and deserves a place in the final… no matter your taste.

Wouldnt agree less.

Industrial Gothic-style, never been done at this level at ESC.
Hatari 2019 were Industrial-Teckno, who were also very avant garde and new showing this at Eurovision.

They got on the 10th spot in the Finals.
Think Bambie Thug could match that.
