During a radio interview yesterday, Armin van Buuren admitted that he has reconsidered the idea of representing the Netherlands at Eurovision next year.

The Dutch DJ did give his fans some hope a while back by saying that he was open to the idea of representing his country in Copenhagen next year, but he appears to have had a change of heart, saying that the Eurovision Song Contest is not one of his priorities and that, as a matter of fact, what started as a “cracked door” has ended up being shut. Despite the outpouring support from fans all over Europe, van Buuren said that he could not imagine himself on the Eurovision stage: “Should I wear a glitter costume and move like Elvis?”

We are very sad to learn that Armin will be a no-show at Eurovision, especially because he could actually win it for his country. As for the glitter and Elvis moves, Armin should know that an ESC artist no longer needs to be as tacky as when he last watched the song contest. Obviously, he has not seen Anouk’s subdued performance last year or Loreen’s the year before…

However, the DJ did bring some hope to Dutch fans of Eurovision, saying that, to his knowledge, Anouk was asked to write a song for next year, although she would not be the one performing it. “In any case, Ilse De Lange would not be the one singing,” he said, pointing at the known rivalry between the two Dutch songstresses. Asked about this during the same radio show, Anouk did not deny that TROS asked her to write a song, which is good news, because it means that there is a chance that she could actually be involved in the process. Which, according to Armin van Buuren, is more and more set to look like an internal selection.

What do you think about Armin van Buuren’s attitude towards Eurovision? Are you bummed or are you hoping that this could open the door to other more enthusiastic Dutch artists that you’d like to see next year on the ESC stage? And how cool (or not) would it be if Anouk does write a song for ESC 2014?

Aw, I was hoping for an Armin van Buuren & Sharon Doorson collaboration, but when I read about Anouk possibly writing the song, I instantly felt better 😀

Fair enough. Armin’s genre is probably too early for the contest & he’s always very very busy anyway! Can’t wait to see what will develop next from The Netherlands for ESC 😀

I’m hoping that Anouk writing the song means her backing vocalist gets the spot. She was a really good singer, and I think she could keep a qualification streak for The Netherlands alive.

I don’t like Armin van Buuren at all so this news isn’t disappointing.

I did not put my hopes up at all. I mean…it’s not such a shocking news! Anyway, Anouk writing a song for next year is a big start and I hope that rumour is true. 🙂

Disappointing. He really could have won and I had high hopes for Armin/ Sharon Doorson. Within Temptation is coming out with a new album soon, maybe they’ll submit one if those songs… Just kidding they’re never gonna do it. With Anouk writing the song it looks like AvroTros might be looking at the backing vocalist. If true it wouldn’t be so bad since she had a nice voice. Personally I want to see Ralf Mackenbach enter. He’s always coming up with stuff for new publicity, he’s fun, young, and hot. Maybe he’d pull a Saade.
