The results of the 2013 OGAE Second Chance Contest are in—and Norway’s Adelén has come out on top! The “Bombo” singer—who likes to remind us that “the night is young” and that her “heart is light”—beat out 14 other finalists to take the coveted title. Winning a national selection is obviously a huge honor. But winning the OGAE Second Chance Contest suggests an artist’s song has longevity and, in another year, could have walked away with the national title.
Adelén—full name Adelén Rusillo Steen—has been one of our favourites since finishing second to Margaret Berger at the 2013 Melodi Grand Prix. Her number was a blast of sunshine in frigid Norway and totally melted our hearts. She went on to climb the charts and landed a massive contract with Simon Fuller, the man behind pop stars like Jennifer Lopez and Carrie Underwood. This Norwegian is going global, y’all.
The OGAE Second Chance Contest has been staged every summer since 1987. National branches of the OGAE are invited to enter one song that failed to win their national selection, and then members of each club and a guest jury vote for their favourite. Scandinavian countries have won six of the past seven contests. Spain’s Pastora Soler broke the Nordic grip in 2012 when she won with her song “Tu vida es tu vida”.

Too little too late. Norway cannot go back and correct the mistake they made.
This should have represented Norway at the contest this year.
Not much of a surprise really, but I’m glad Adelén’s Bombo took the top spot this year.
Bombo was painfully overrated. It’s a mediocre summer hit, nothing more. Her live performance was abysmal- I’m surprised she even came second.
Also, where the hell is Estonia and Grete Paia in the running for 2nd chance? That’s my number one shoulda-gone-to-Eurovision of 2013.
I don’t like “Bombo” – the girl doesn’t have a nice voice.
I was rooting for Gigi Radics from Hungary, but Adelen would’ve been my second choice
What you’ve reported as “complete results” is actually just the list of partecipants. You can see the real scoreboard at the end of the second video.
Yey Blitzkids!
My favourites in this selection were Adelén and Mikael Saari, so I’m obviously happy enough with the winner, though do think Saari deserved a higher position than 5th. But I’m a bit distraught at the second last place finish for a pretty decent Irish entry.
It was said by a good few that we sent the wrong song to Eurovision (Ireland) I disagree I thought Only Love Survives was a good song, our runner up song, Crashing Down only managed 14th in this 2nd chance comp so i rest my case, right song went to ESC
I think Europe owes Norway a big thank you for sending Margaret instead of this terrible noise.
That was quite interesting. Pleased with the runner-up and the third place (list above is running order). Surprised at last, and a few other surprises too. Well done to Adelen .
I thought Yohio had that in the bag. At least is a good song (but she still needs a lot of vocal work. It’s only aiming higher for her from here)
Blitzkids and Meital de Razon are the ones who REALLY need to try again. Their songs are very addictive and what I consider is their better work comparing it to their other singles. I’m certain they can make a great hit again.
