Second Runner-Up: Holland’s Ilse DeLange

TROS, the Dutch broadcaster, announced today that the artist who will represent the Netherlands in Copenhagen in 2014 is going to be revealed on 25 November. According to some sources, quoted by Eurovision.tv itself, the most likely name is Ilse DeLange, Anouk’s rival and a well-known singer in Holland.

Until we know who the artist is officially – and because it’s fun to speculate – it’s worth taking a look at Ilse DeLange. She is a 36-year old singer whose rose to fame in the Netherlands after recording a country music album in Nashville , “World of Hurt”, and launching it to great success in her home country in 1998. She went on to release six more pop English language albums, most of which peaked at number 1 in the national charts, winning many accolades along the way. Now a multi-platinum artist and a musical powerhouse in her own right, Ilse has been recruited as one of the four judges on “The Voice of Holland”.

It’s interesting to note that DeLange has just dropped a greatest hits album, “After The Hurricane”, on 25 October. If she is indeed the artist who will represent the Netherlands in 2014, the song might be one of the four new tracks featured on the album, namely “Blue Bittersweet”, “I’ll Know”, “When It’s You”, and “Turn Around”. Our money, if she were to choose one of them to represent the country at Eurovision, are on “When It’s You”:

What do you think? Would you like Ilse to represent the Netherlands? And, most importantly, is she able to match Anouk’s success at Eurovision, bringing Holland to the Grand Final once again next year?

I love Ilse. But the Netherlands also has other great singers; Sharon den Adel, Sharon Doorson, Charlotte Wessels, Simone Simmons, Ralf Mackenbach, etc.

I don’t think that it will be Ilse if you listen to Cornald Maas, who is back as commentator this year. But he misspoke himself so it will be definitely a woman. Will it be Sharon Doorson??!

They all are longer then 3 min and will have to be cut. ‘When it’s you’ and ‘Blue Bittersweet’ have an annoying beat. The other two tracks are better. There is a lot of country style in her voice and the way she sings – how it will fare with Europeans is to be seen. The fact that she is virtually not known outside Netherlands is a very big minus. But that she is enrolled with Universal a big plus. In this last two respects she has Emmelie written all over – and it is known that winning recipes do… Read more »

She’s great. I would love to see her represent the Netherlands 🙂 No personality? Pff look at this: http://giel.vara.nl/artiesten/artiest-detail/artikel/25734-ilse-delange There is a strip of videos of her doing unplugged stuff. She also posted them on her facebook. The girl can sing. 😀

I really hope that the Anouk – Ilse feud won’t persist, it is entirely based on nothing and not a nice start for The Netherlands if Ilse really is our representative in Copenhagen ..
