This afternoon, Latvian broadcaster LTV held a special press conference to decide the running order of the final of Dziesma 2014, which will be held in Ventspils on 22 February. You can watch the video of the draw at the end of this post.

Each of the 12 finalists randomly picked a label from one of two boards shaped like horse heads (Why a horse? We don’t know). Once flipped over, the label revealed the number they’ll be performing in. Ralfs Eilands, who sang for Latvia at Eurovision as part of PeR last year, will have to perform first. (He’s the guy pictured in the glittery silver space suit at top).

Final Running Order

1. Ralfs Eilands and Valters Puce – “Revelation”
2. Markus Riva – “Lights On”
3. Katrina Bindere — “Moment and Tomorrow”
4. Dons “Pedeja vestule”
5. Samanta Tina — “Stay”

I’m hoping for Stay, Here I Am Again, or Saule Riet. Stay: I’m noticing a trend in Euphoria-type numbers. The ones that start slow and turn into a club song after a minute. Euphoria, then Glorious, now Stay? The song itself is fine, and I see it as a contender for the final, but not a winner. Here I Am Again: Eurovision is biased against men. Of the last 15 years, only 2 winning acts were solo men. It doesn’t work because it doesn’t have the same sex appeal or class that women seem to have in music now. It… Read more »

It’s between Stay, Saule Riet and Revelation for me.

Stay captures my attention immediately. Some say it’s this year’s Bombo, but the insturmentals, as Samanta’s vocals, are easily better than Adelen’s.

Saule riet managed to interest me. A more Lativan number won’t be unwelcome, but it may be a risky move.

Revelation it’s a dodgy number; doubt it’ll win, but the song is of a very high quality. Sorry for the last place stigma last year.

Hoping for Revelation to win, though I’m not totally expecting Latvia to be willing to send a member of PeR again after what happened last year. Really can’t support Katrine Lukins with her dodgy vocals, sorry. I don’t care for her song either :/ I’d be cool with Saule riet winning, too. A really neat take on a style of music that Avicii effectively invented, with a vocalist who reminds me of ABBA. Samanta Tina would be good provided she stops going flat on the long notes! Niko would be okay but risky. The song is fairly unoriginal, and when… Read more »
