Prisons hold people captive, but they also provide shelter. In so many ways, love does the same. Just ask Severina, the Madonna of the Balkans and Croatia’s Eurovision 2006 contestant.

She explores that dichotomy of love in her new single “Alcatraz,” which takes inspiration from the infamous California prison. Musically Severina gives us soul and visually she works her camera angles Eurovision’s Next Top Model-style. This is high drama…with a lot of lingerie.

“Alcazar”…erm…”Alcatraz” is also the first single from her upcoming 13th album. Milos Roganovic penned both the music and the lyrics. He’s the same man behind the lyrics of Zeljko Joksimovic’s “Nije ljubav stvar”.

In the official video, popular Croatian TV host and journalist asks Severina how she knows when love has fizzled. Severina answers gently, but with attitude, that true love never ends. Then the drama begins!

Severina explained her point of view on her Facebook page.

This song is like a woman, emotional but strongand speaks of infinite love. ‘Alcatraz’, as a punishment, but as a lifeline, is one of those songs where the audience is louder than me. Enjoy the new song and video!

Alcatraz lyrics — Severina

I’ll tell you something, if you let me
It does not matter who, what matters is how you love someone
You turn your back on me, as usual
And I will not let youand I will not give
The heart doesn’t know what is logical

(Ref.)

Wait a minute, it is not the end, do not kill love in my name
Come stay and be strong
I do not care where it sailsour ship has at least a hundred cracks
But we will survive this, if you lend me some love

This room tonight is my Alcatraz
And the walls are these, my lost dreams
For me, the hands never coincide
Tonight, do not think of me, in all this I remain alone

(Ref.)

Wait a minute, it is not the end, do not kill love in my name
Come stay and be strong, eyes get used to the darkness over time
I do not care where it sailsour ship has at least a hundred cracks
But we will survive this, if you lend me some love

Come stay and be strongeyes get used to the darkness over time
