Vilija Mataciunaite, Lithuania’s Eurovision 2014 singer, is a tough girl. As the lyrics of her song “Attention” tell us, she can say no to a guy who buys her a drink (or two), and she’s not that naive that she would melt as he calls her a movie star. But is Vilija really an emancipated woman? Does she have enough sass to carry this song?
We’re thinking she needs a bit more grrrr in her girl power. During her national final performance, she wore a glittery shirt and a tulle skirt. It was more Halloween dress up that independent woman. Her team seem to understand that she needs a bit more fire. In her super-cool promotional photos she’s styled as a rebellious teen. Unfortunately it comes off a little “Minnie Mouse with some blue lipstick”.
Is Vilija really a badass, or just a good actress? Does she have enough ‘tude for “Attention”? Let us know in the comments box below!
Attention lyrics – Vilija Mataciunaite
Did you think that you can get me, boy? (no)
Think again, babe.
Thought you could buy me for a drink or two,
But I’m not that easy
You saw me chattin’ with my girls at bar (true)
We’re all pretty
You told me I look like a movie star,
But I’m not naive
So… I’m gonna make you, make you fall,
down do-do-down down on your knees.
I’m gonna make you,
make you fall down to get all…
Attention, a little care
Then you can have a love love love love, some love
Attention, a little care,
And you can have lots of love
Do you dream abourt me in your bed?
Keep on dreamin’
You thought I’d give it to you – all I have (wait)
Not the first night
You said that it might be the love at first sight (babe)
Hold your horses
You told me you’re the best I’ll ever have,
But I just don’t believe
I’m not gonna ask you buy me diamonds,
no no no no,
Just behave yourself, treat me very well,
give me some:
Attention, a little care
Then you can have a love love love love, some love
Attention, a little care,
And you can have lots of love.

I think this song has a very deep and modern idea. It is rather good…But.. I think only Lithuanians can understand it, I mean the idea.
I’m afraid this one will not qualify. Even Andrius Pojavis’ synth-pop tune “Something” from last year’s ESC is waaaay better than this.
12 weeks to choice a bad song, and a bad singer.
The chorus is the strong part, the rest is meh. Not bad but not the best. If Lithuania could qualify last year, they can this year.
One man’s meat is another man’s poison, ain’t it? It’s interesting to read how the “down, du-du-down-down” (which live becomes rather a “du-du-du-du-du-du-down” in parts) is alluring to some and untenable to others 😉
At least no-one is criticising her for not speaking/singing “good English”, what almost all performers are accused of as if it were a sine-qua-non condition for singing at ESC.
A really bad song
This song is awful…. No good qualities… And that stuttering is so annoying!!! No way it will qualify for the final!
I like it, but I actually like all “bad” songs this year :p Hopefully it will qualify, it’s pretty good if you pay some ATTENTION!
I think Vilija is just fine the way she is, the fact she wears a tulle skirt or that she looks like a “Minnie Mouse with blue lipstick” (which in my opinion is already quite badass) may be silly for you, but an independent, strong woman doesn’t need to be all “grrr” all the time and look like she’s always angry. I’m looking forward to see what she comes up with for the staging in Copenhagen. About the song, I usually don’t like the lithuanian entries, at least from the past, what? 5 years? I was ready to hate this… Read more »
I have to admit it is a guilty pleasure for me as well. The rapid fire “downs” and “d-d-d-d” strings are captivating to me.
Amazing song.
i hope so so so much that Poland will qualify to the final they deserves it!
I kept this song on a low fire for a couple of weeks, as I unwrapped the “instant hits” and embarked on lengthy discussion on the usual big ones. And then one day, wait… ATTENTION! I actually watched the performance on the last night of her NF, and I was stunned. As Eugene UK stated (ironically, I hope), it may look as if “wrong country”. But it adds to it, for the “right country” would have had a fake amazon (i.e. one of those giant beauties only they know where they get them from) singing and dancing a way more… Read more »
I love it! It’s my guilty pleasure ?
This song is not so good, but this song will qualify for the grand final
what a piece of crap, instant headaches, the photo sucks too
The longest national final process of all the countries and they ended up with a dreadful song, a horrible dress and a dancer that irritates me with his stupid moves. Nil Points
the song is really bad and weird. But i think she is so hot!!
Its just really bad..
There is some smart songwriting here, and she pronounces everything really well and sings well for most of it, but some of the English needs to be fixed… “You can have a love love love love, some love” — this is odd. Also, “chatting with my girls at bar.”
Where she really needs some power is when she says “Attention” – it’s obnoxious when she yells it but she could make it sound better.
The song is a mess! Sweden will win
Horrible. Rubbish voice an than bit at the beginning ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION is just stupid .. Does not deserve to qualify ..
very weak
