More than a month after her Eurovision victory, Conchita Wurst can still fill an arena—or, in this case, Trafalgar Square. Conchita was the headline act during Saturday’s London Pride festivities, which attracted more than 20,000 people. Ian McKellen—that’s Gandalf to all of you Lord of the Rings fans—introduced Conchita to the audience.

“Show business has always led the way when it comes to the freedom to be yourself,” McKellen said. “So, Conchita is following in the footsteps of our predecessors. There is a long tradition of outrageousness and confidence that performers embody, and that has an enormous impact. It clears the way for others to dare to be themselves. She has done just that.”

The team from wiwibloggs was on hand and recorded Conchita performing two numbers: “That’s What I Am”, which came second in Austria’s Eurovision 2012 national selection, and “Rise Like a Phoenix”, which won Eurovision 2014.

We caught up with Conchita on the red carpet after her performance, so be sure to check it out if you haven’t seen it.

Conchita should’ve been at the EuroPride in Oslo! The only entreating acts were Josefin Winther (Silent Storm composer and lyricist) and Prince Poppycock (America’s Got Talent finalist 2010). Come on! It would’ve been so perfect to have her perform there. But then again, if you had to choose between performing in a small city square with few audience members and f***ing Trafalgar Square the choice would be rather obvious 🙂
