So hot right now: Severina gets mischievous with Uno momento

Severina Vuckovic, a.k.a Croatia’s reincarnation of Madonna, has dropped a potential summer hit “Uno Momento”. Severina, who sang for Croatia at Eurovision 2006, clearly likes la bella Italia: This is her second song in recent memory with an Italian title. Let’s just hope the Italian JESC debutant doesn’t consult her video production team, as this is definitely an adult number.

The song drips with heat, as it’s a collaboration between Severina and Serbian girl band Ministarke. The band’s name translates from Serbian as “Female Ministers”, and it seems that they do have a message to preach. Politically, the video refutes the entrenched stereotype that Serbs and Croats hate each other.

But of course we’re talking about music here. “Uno momento” has all the ingredients of a summer hit: trumpets, a catchy melody, and that theme of you-only-live-once. Unfortuantely it lacks the originality that Severina is known for. (Remember her Eurovision number “Moja Stikla“?)

On a positive note, “Uno Momento” is quite catchy and something we would happily dance to at a private pool party. It also features some fierce choreography, a faux lesbian scene, and some lovely rock guitars a la Ireland 2009. High five for looking good in your forties, Severina!

Severina has said that she took inspiration from Beyonce’s official videos. They once shared the same costume designer, so I guess it’s not that out of left field. Perhaps she consulted with Mariya Yaremchuk‘s lyricist too. This number features the lyrics “Tika-Taka-Tika-Tak”. 

Controversy was brewing even before Severina released the song. Ahead of its release, provocoative pictures emerged of one of the band members touching Severina’s bum. In a country where 86% of the population describes themselves as Christian, folks just don’t appreciate suggestive marketing.
