On October 11 SMRTV, San Marino’s state broadcaster, will finally reveal whether it will participate in Eurovision 2015—and how it will choose its singer if it does. As anticipation about San Marino’s future in the contest builds, it’s finally time to say goodbye to Valentina Monetta once and for all.

Many of us here in the House of Wiwi love Valentina Monetta. And by love, I mean LOVE with four capital letters in bold. Why else would we have created our own awards in her honour?

Back in 2012, we had mixed feelings about “The Social Network Song” but loved her spunk and sass and even her meltdown at the Baku Airport after being eliminated. A year later she shined with “Crisalide”. Oh my god, was that a fan favourite or what?! There were some major temper tantrums in the house when she failed to qualify.

Finally, in 2014, we were delighted to see Valentina take “Maybe” (and her giant seashell) into the final, where she finished 24th with 14 points. She was so happy just to be in the final, so the end  the result didn’t actually matter.

It is unlikely we will see Valentina next year, because the national broadcaster of San Marino has said it is likely for a male performer to compete for them next year (O-o-O O-o-O).

So, what is your favourite song of Valentina? Is it her social network song? Her fan and bookies favourite “Crisalide”. Or maybe it was her only qualifying entry? Comment below and make sure to vote in the poll!

The Social Network Song — Eurovision 2012

Crisalide — Eurovision 2013

Maybe — Eurovision 2014

Crisalide was my favorite one. I am not a hardcore fan of any musical genre, so I tend to like songs that cross traditional style boundaries. For me then, the combination of a pop ballad and disco was a very positive factor. I recently listened to “I Will Survive” for the first time after hearing all the comparisons. I hear the melodic similarities, but I think the two songs have a very different character. “I Will Survive” sounds groovy and sassy while “Crisalide” is more triumphant and climactic. On Ralph Siegel’s end, the ability to take some ideas from “I… Read more »

Crisalide is a great dramatic song. wish it was staged better. Plus Valentina looked amazing.

This year she looked old and nervous, the song was a nice tribute to 70s ballads but it didn’t deserve to qualify. Forse sounded better

PS: LOOL just read about her incident in Baku airport.

I still say she should return as part of the San Marino delegation next year just to help market the act. Just read about the coffee incident in Baku. Love it!

Oh, Valentina Monetta! I love her songs! ”The Social Network Song” is sassy and groovy, but I can’t place it higher than 30th in 2012 (strong year). Then, ”Crisalide” was fantastic, easily in my top 5 of 2013. One of the biggest injustices in Eurovision. Last and for me the best, ”Maybe” was for me the best song in 2014 and one of my all time favorites. Fantastic lyrics, relaxing music and that voice! Perfect 10 for ”Maybe”! After my country, it was the #1 song I wanted so much to see in the final! I was over the moon… Read more »

I dislike all three, but with a gun to my head I would say Vola was the best. Such a bloody shame ‘Maybe’ made it to the final, it’s embarrassing low quality, both musically as in vocal performance.

In my opinion Valentina Monetta is the best singer that has ever walked and sang on eurovision stage!!!!!! Crisalide is the best, I still listen to it nowadays, but I also listen to Maybe and I find both amazing. Crisalide-vola is just an amazing song, so awesome and so beautiful. It is the biggest shame ever that she didn’t get to the final and of course won the final…. Such a shame…

Crisalide, Maybe, then Social Network Song. In fact, I still listen to Crisalide to this day! Proud Valentina was committed and brought San Marino to the final. She helped made history for the microstate, hopefully it gives SM a bit of a confidence boost for future Eurovision (even Junior) contests.

Maybe, it was the most simple and beautiful of them all and hey! It got them to the final, what could be better. Hoping for a repeat performance of that this year.

Didn’t like any of them but if I had to pick I’d choose “Crisalide”.

Crisalide is the best out of the three but I don’t love any of them. Iti is to a point outdated and builds up drama pretentiously at it goes by.

Maybe is absolutely old-fashioned and it goes nowhere.

TSNetwork Song is crap.

And the stage acts haven’t been great either. She could have done a lot more with Crisalide.
