After her seven appearances as a competitor, Sanna Nielsen is returning to Melodifestivalen 2015—but this time as host! She’ll be joined by comedian and talk show host Robin Paulsson, one of Sweden’s most in-demand television personalities.
Last year’s Melodifestivalen drew the smallest audience in ages, and Eurofans partly blamed the hosts, who lacked charisma and spark. So Christel Tholse Willers, the director of Eurovision 2015 for SVT, knew she needed a major duo to bring back the fire. Willers told SVT that the Sanna and Robin are totally ying and yang.
One is a confident presenter with extensive experience. The other has a wealth of experience in the Eurovision Song Contest. Together, we believe that they will have lots of joy and warmth and be both TV viewers as the arena crowd in our guide.
But SVT didn’t just hand the job to Sanna without making her work. “We did a screen test, and it felt snappy this is something that feels very natural,” Willers said. “She has no problem talking to a camera.”
Who is Melodifestivalen host Robin Paulsson?
If you’re Swedish, you would never ask that. Robin hosts a late-night talk-show called Robins, where he jokes about current affairs, interviews Sweden’s biggest stars and films comedy sketches. He told SVT that his humour won’t overshadow the singers at #melfest. “I hope that we will be able to be spontaneous in spite of the press,” he says. “That we will bet on ourselves but at the same time be serious about the contest to be decided. For it is after all a music competition.”
