Today at noon Malta’s Federica Falzon presented her Junior Eurovision 2014 song “Diamonds” live from her school St Benedict’s College in Hal Kirkop. As expected, the budding opera star has gone for popera. Her voice is dark, melodic and mysterious—bringing the drama and power in equal measure.
The video shows Federica spinning in the sand, painting and hitting those high notes in various rooms. Towards the end of the video she uncovers a large diamond buried on the beach. It’s fitting, as her song is a real diamond!
As all of you voting in our weekly JESC poll already know, Federica is the last contestant to present her song. Is it a case of saving the best for last? We’ll know soon enough…

Diamonds lyrics — Federica Falzon
Nothing burns like the cold
But I feel warmth deep down in my soul
Look at me
Here I stand
Take my hand
(Chorus)
Together we can shine
Like diamonds in the sky
No dream is out of reach
If you just believe
Find our course
Through the darkest storm
Find your light, and you’ll know
The right path to take u home
Look at me
Here I stand
Take my hand
(Chorus)
Together we can shine
Like diamonds in the sky
No dream is out of reach
If you just believe
Find our course
Through the darkest storm
(Bridge)
(Chorus)
Together we can shine
Like diamonds in the sky
No dream is out of reach
If you just believe
Find our course
Through the darkest storm… and you’ll be home.

I hate Federica’s voice. Gillian Attard, her coach should know that her voice isn’t suitable for not a kid, nor an adult. Her voice is discusting. Her song was a one-woman opera, and an opera isn’t suppost to be sang from a kid, especially at her age (11 yrs old)! This year, I was very disappointed. The Start of Gaia Cauchi deserved to win but, this didn’t even deserve to go on the JESC. If Federica would sing appropriatly with a good voice, and not a popera voice, she would have won. If Federica is reading this I have something to… Read more »
I am very disappointed that Federica was allowed to take part in this festival. She pertains to a higher grade of professionalism i.e. Ti Lascio una Canzone which she won with flying colours. I suggest that her vocal chords should be preserved and not to be wasted away taking part in such competitions. The disappointing part was that the lyrics were good, however, not understood. I only managed to understand the words because they were written. When Federica sang in Ti Lascio una Canzone, every word was loud and clear. Her voice should be preserved for her future.
@lor sour grapes lol
i cannot understand a word she is saying. Her diction is all wrong. The song itself is quite beautiful but Honestly if she continues to sing like this she is not going to have any voice left In a couple of years. Her vocal coach should know better than to continue to encourage her to sing like this.
Ooh…don’t understand anything she sung…but ooh…
Not the best…but ooh…

boohoo: have you asked me? No. Its not a fact 🙂 You dont know what ‘fact’ means, that is a fact for sure 🙂 🙂
Jesc is SONG, not voice, nor talent contest. Of course talent is very important but the best song should win. ‘Diamonds’ is song for adults, opera is for adults, not for children or teenagers. So this song is not suitable for jesc, nor for 11-old girl.
@becaboo2012 you call this girl loser? lol jealousy alert!
i believe jesc winner is based upon talent! and here she is, the most talented girl Federica
Loooooooosseeeeerrrrrrr!! “The Start” was better!
A great song and a great voice for 11 years! Federica Falzon are phenomenal! Malta should be proud of yourself and the team that worked on this masterpiece! The “Diamonds”delivers the strongest emotions ! Malta deserves second trophy! The song is amazing, and the lyrics are the most wonderful artistic message I ever heard! Federica are an a crystalline voice, invades the soul like a flame!
A great song and a great voice for 11 years! Federica Falzon are phenomenal! Malta should be proud of yourself and the team that worked on this masterpiece! Enjoy and good luck!
malta will win again!! the first opera winner in the juniro eurovision..oh my god her voice is just awesome for an 11 year old.
After a few listens I think I’ve made up my mind about this one. It really is epic. The music is amazing, and her voice is out of this world (even though the really high notes makes it at some parts a bit annoying). The lyrics are also nice and inspiring; even though one can’t understand the lyrics if he doesn’t read them. My top 16: 1. Slovenia- 9.8/10 2. Bulgaria- 9.7/10 3. Malta- 9.3/10 4. Georgia- 9.2/10 5. This kid is scary. Performance of this song will probably be great. Last year, a opera-singing kid won the Dutch edition of Holland’s Got Talent so yeah…

Seriously, they should put a SUBTITLE to her performance!!!! Again, seriously!!!!
There’s not a chance this will win and it probably won’t get too good a placing either. I mean, I don’t love it, it’s not bad, but this will not appeal to kids at all. Opera is one of those things that you avoid as a kid just because that’s what you’re supposed to do.
i also know as a fact that you have no idea what amazing talent means 🙂
boohoo: the song has not won yet (and i dont think it will 🙂 ) so how can it be fact? It is called a predicition, nothing else.
wtf malta will keep the trophy
This song will win! It’s a fact

I expected much more. I don’t like this song and her voice. It’s really boring and has no chance to win.
Maybe someone likes it, but I don’t. Maybe the Bulgarian song wasn’t exactly childish, it was on the border, but this is just so “grown up”. No matter the voice she has, that part is brilliant. But this whole package is more suitable for some older ESC in the following year (when she comes in age). No, just no.
I even like this song, because it is James Bond-esque. But no, this is a JESC, not ESC. You’re spoiling the kids, for God’s sake!
Her voice is good, don’t like the song as much though and in such a strong year I’m not sure how this will fare.

Tough to say since who knows how the younger viewers will vote but does could do well as the standard Eurovision contest. Why couldn’t San Marino produce something this good? Instead they have a lackluster 80s type.
Yeah, I have to say. I actually didn’t know this was in English till I read the lyrics. A disappointment, compared to Gaia! Love that it’s something unique though, apart from the lyrics.
its amaIng how malta has given such a great talent these two years 🙂
her voice is surely strong but the song isn’t really that great i think it will be better live
Malta will win again! her voice is unique
Opera isn’t something that is awesome for kids. It’s a powerful voice but the Song is nothing Special.
WOW! Opera at junior contest!
Wow! I don’t know what to say. I have to listen to this one more than one times to say something that I won’t disagree to in the future. I am sure a like this one a lot, but I don’t know how to rank it yet; So, for now, I’m not ranking.
Belarus, Sweden, Malta – top 3.
The winner!
