In the run-up to each heat of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK), Finland’s selection for Eurovision 2015, the Wiwi Jury — our in-house team of music unprofessionals — will rate the songs from that heat. Tonight we turn to Eeverest‘s EDM banger “Love It All Away“. Did the song make us want to hit the dancefloor? Or did we prefer a stiff drink at the bar instead?
Deban: Driven by the sound of a promising beat, “Love It All Away” attempts to ride the eurodance wave. Sadly, unless you’re fully committed to this music genre, much of the composition won’t meet your expectations. The consolation is that Eeverest are certainly above average. However, they’re light years away from the summit.
Josh: I love this song! To me, the singers voice is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey, and I love that. I wasn’t expecting the song to build into a full-blown dance track. The only criticism I have of the singer is she looks uncomfortable standing there, which is bad when it’s noticeable in a film clip. Imagine what that would look like on stage. I like the song though. It’s good.
William: The E in EDM does not stand for Eeverest. You’ll understand that when you hear this song. I love the middle minute. But the beginning takes too long to build and by the ending I’m just a tad bored. I go to the club to dance, not to sleep. In any event, its high is higher than most songs in the selection, so I award it a score based on that.
Ramadan: I really enjoy this song. The build-up is really nice and Ida’s voice fits perfectly in the song. It’s one of the better entries in UMK this year. It’s so damn catchy, and I’m hoping the live performance will be great.
Robyn: This sounds like an instrumental track where the singer was reluctantly brought in because of the pesky rule about needing vocals in the song. The chorus starts out sounding like it’s going to be an instrumental EDM chorus, until the singer chimes in with some insignificant vocals. As a club track, this is fine; for Eurovision, there’s not enough there.
Sami: The production isn’t that good, but I really love this song. Ida has an amazing voice and this sounds very international. The music video is awful and I really hope they bring something special to the live performance.
Sopon: I’m not feeling it. It’s very middle-of-the-road, like a spin-off of “Clarity”. No further comment.
Patrick: This is perfeeeeect *sings*. HOW I LOVE THIS! Eeverest is really one of my favourites in Finland and in my opinion it would work so well in Vienna – I would buy a Finnish flag for sure! “Love it all away” is like David Guetta had a really good day and found the perfect singer for it. It is stuck in my head. Please Finland send it to the final – but I’m sure they won’t…
Mikhail: That’s such a nice tune. It makes you wanna dance. Also, the singer’s voice is really sweet, but I will forget it after a week of listening, because such songs do not leave an impression on me. Nevertheless, it is good. Just not great.
The highest and lowest scores have been removed before calculating the final scores to avoid bias. We have removed a high of 10 and a low of 3.
The Wiwi Jury Verdict: 7.1/10
