As previously reported, Ireland will make their debut at this year’s Junior Eurovision. And earlier today, JuniorEurovision.tv released an update on how the country is getting on with choosing its first ever entry.

TG4 Junior Eurovision 2015 Trailer

Hundreds applied, but only 50 acts have made it through to the next round. The final 50 will perform before a panel of experts on 19 July. The judges will assess each act’s singing abilities, along with the song they have written for the competition.

In recent years, Irish viewers have had very little in terms of Eurovision selection shows. Typically five songs compete in a one-off special edition of RTÉ’s The Late Late Show. However, Ireland’s Junior Eurovision campaign is being organised by the Irish-language broadcaster TG4. Thankfully, they are bringing some innovation into the mix, as 30 acts will be selected to compete in a multi-part live television series. Full details on the selection shows have yet to be revealed, although it has been confirmed that there will be a panel of judges.

@Robyn

Ireland can also perform in English if they want. The entry is only in Irish because TG4 is an Irish speaking station.

Overall, I’m very happy with how seriously TG4 seem to be taking it. They seem dedicated. This should be a wake up call for RTÉ. Especially if TG4 have the same luck Italy had and Serbia 2007 in the adult ESC and go on to win the competition.

Could the EBU be giving us the first refusal to host JESC 2016? I’d like to think. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Fairplay to TG4, they are going for an all out national final, hopefully the greedy money hungry idiots at RTE, who are too afraid to spend any money on anything except their massive wages, can learn a thing or two from TG4. Hell if their Junior participating works well, I will be calling for them to take the reigns of the adult version as well. Credit where its due, our entry may be as Gaelige and might not be well understood across Europe, but you cannot fault them for making a decent attempt. (I hope our entry is 50/50 language… Read more »

It certainly feels like TG4 are taking this seriously now. Two girls that are on my school bus even decided to go for the auditions.

Well since the Irish will make their GreAtY debut on this year’s Junior Vision im rooting them to win in Bulgaria..
Let a new country that has not won in the past the JESC to come victorious this time..
Why not Ireland to be that country.. 🙂
They have been staying without victory in our Vision for 19 years now since their 1996 win..
The Junior EuroVision Contest might be way much inferior than the adult EuroVision but victory is victory.. <3
The Italians won last November on their grande debut so it might be Ireland's turn now.. 🙂
